Not your typical Kong....

So my mother bought our dog Moses (yellow lab) a kong last christmas that he has absolutely NO interest for so I was going to take it and give it to Ace.......it just doesn't look like every other "typical" kong. I've attached a link to the pic of one below. It's EXACTLY the same.

Is it still a good stuffing kong for my boxer? The hole on the end seems rather small but the toy is meant for large dogs....I'm just curious since I see the majority of kongs as the three tiered one and I'd still love to stuff it full of goodies for my boy.

We have one of those, but Abbey doesn't like it as much as the regular kong. Kong is just the brand name, they make a lot of different types of products. The brush we use is even made by them, it is awesome. It is a rubber curry brush, the only thing that really works on her close coat.

It doesn't hold as much as a regular kong, but you can stuff it with kibble, treats, peanutbutter etc similar to the regular kong. This one is supposed to help clean their teeth while they chew it...I don't know if it does, but that is one of the claims. We got it cause we liked that you could use it as a ball, but when Abbey was younger it was to big, heavy, and akward for her to pick up so she never used it. Now that she is big enough to use it she just doesn't seem that interested.

Ozzy likes it!

Ozzy and Vinny have one of these as well. Sometimes when I need a few minutes to myself I will put a few steak treats in it and Ozzy loves it. Now the trick is to find treats that won't easily fall out. The steak treats I buy for him are harder for him to get out. Ozzy will roll this ball around for an hour until he gets all the treats out. This kong is definitely not his favorite toy but he loves getting treats out of it.

I also have one and break up biscuits to put inside. They roll it around and the treats fall out. You are also supposed to squirt the cheese or peanut butter that Kong sells (in cans like...whip cream in a can) into the grooves of the ball. But I can't imagine how messy that would get.
This is a great stocking stuffer! Be sure you get a stuffer for the kong too. ;)

We have a few of those laying around. The first one we got was from Kong when Brady won their photo contest, they seemed to like that one so I bought 2 more, one for each dog. Now they could care less about them.

They don't really hold as much as a regular kong and the grooves are hard to clean out at times, even the dishwasher doesn't get all the gunk out sometimes. The dogs really aren't into them unless there is some food in the but honestly, I would rather just give them a stuffed frozen regular kong.

I am sure Ace will like to play with that ball but I bet he would like a regular kong stuffed with goodies too!

Thanks TossBranAbi, I gave it to him last night and he loved it even without yummies inside but I think I'll definately get him a regular large kong as well as the ball sure does look quite hard to clean. Thanks for the suggestions :)

Amazon has some ok prices on kongs and if you wanted to buy multiples (to stuff and freeze for a week) they have the deal where you buy 3, get the 4th one free.

I have what seems like a million kongs laying around here. On Sunday nights I clean out the fridge and stuff kongs for the week. I have 3 dogs and they each get a kong each weekday and sometimes on the weekends if we have company. Plus I have extras because they get lugged around and lost behind stuff. My last count was 18, not sure if any have been added since then.

A tip, when stuffing a regular kong, put a bit of dry kibble in first to aid in cleaning later. I wash them in the dishwasher, top shelf.

Kongs

We have two kongs for each dog, they stay in the freezer until we need some peace and quiet or when they have to stay in their crates too long. Thankfully that's not often! We have the treat ball, too, and mine don't seem to care too much about that one. Maybe I'll try the stuffing in the grooves, but only in the crate with no blanket or towel! Thanks for the tip about Amazon, I'll probably get a few more.

Does anyone have the "teething" kong? My trainer says they aren't very sturdy and keep getting brought back to the store for refunds.

Ah, great suggestions! I'm going to go purchase a few right now. I do have some of those nights where I'd rather not have to prepare a kong for the next day so prepping 3 of them would be so nice and easy to do. Thanks again for the great ideas. Amazon....here I come!
