My 7 week old puppy (Maya) was $450 with only one shot and her tail docked. We found another breader in the area (Lansing) that was asking $600 (he offered me a pup for $500) with the tails docked, 3 shots. I heard that in Detroit they were going for $1,000... Some say that I paid to much, but I couldn't put a price on my Maya

Wow! I am nervous now. Got a message from my sis in OK.in July. Someone at her place of work was giving away TWO AKC purebred boxers. I responded but too late...Iwas getting used to the disappointment. Didn't get 'Gunner' my German Shepherd who I was gonna train in German or my 'Tana' (my rescue Dobe) cuz my hoosman determined, at the last minute, those breeds were vicious and would maul our teenaged daughter the minute we left the house. And wouldn't I feel guilty as heck when I got home and there lay our most precious daughter in bloody pieces...
Anyway, quick message back from my sis, the new owners of the boxers (who also work where my sis does) would GIVE me a pup since I missed out on one of the parents. YEAH!!! Now we wait for our 'Betsy' who is gestating in her momma's belly. But after reading about Henry...now I'm worrying cuz what if Betz isn't the fawn baby we envisioned? What if she is??? Or worse yet, what if they change their mind and say we can't have her? Guess a mixed breed Betz would be better than one that doesn't even make it to her new loving home....

you said ONLY $350? I paid $275 for Tomi and he is full boxer..Are they going for much higher prices now adays? Not that I wouldn't pay a high price for another one, but GEEEESH, more than $350 is a lot for a vet student

White Boxers are supposed to be sold cheaper I paid 125.00 for Diva only b/c she wasn't show quality and she was white but her brothers and sisters were 400.00 and up...I have seen were BYB sell the white ones for $100 more than the fawn and brindles..makes me wanna scream..I am on a waiting list for my next baby which is going to be born oct 1st and I am paying 500.00 I got her off the list of breeders on boxerworld:)

We leave 5 minutes from Detroit. We check the papers frequently for puppies. The usually range anywhere from $300 to $500 with docked tails and first shots. We wound up getting our from Jackson and paid $500.

Henry is beautiful! and he loves you unconditionally as I'm sure you love him as well. Do we send our skin kids back if they don't look like mom or dad? I think not. I do, however, agree that the feeling of being "taken" is not a good one. Small claims court would probably be your best solution if the breeder doesn't either produce the papers (which I would use to file a complaint with AKC to investigate) or refund you your purchase fee. If the breeder fails to show for court I believe judgement is automatically passed in your favor, and they will attach wages if they have to. Whether it is worth the trouble to you or not is solely up to you.

On price: white boxers s/b cheaper than littermates that meet breed standards, and they are required (by a reputable breeder) to be spayed/nuetered under a contract. In Northern Calif. prices are upwards of $600.00 (without ears cropped), though you can generally expect to pay a little less for a "pet" quality dog. My Tess was the last female in her litter to find my loving family, & I chose her over her absolutely gorgeous "show" quality flashy brother, not for price reasons (I was discounted to $450 from $650) but because of her sweet personality and I felt she was a better fit for my family. Tenaia was also $450 but again she is a "pet" quality girl and they botched her tail - it's really short like a rottie, but we think it gives her character.

On shedding: puuuullleeeesse. Mine lose hair everywhere! It's just that it is really short and fine so it is less noticeable than say a retriever - unless of course I'm wearing light colored clothing.

Did anyone mention the possibility Henry could be the result of a multilple father pregnancy? It is indeed a fact that a dog can give birth to puppies with different fathers in the same litter. (there are posts on this subject) Again, another reason to research the breeder.

Do what you feel best suits you for restitution. As for Henry, if you love him and he loves you, what else really matters?

Henry looks like a nice dog. He didn't inherit the boxer look but maybe the personality -- that is more important. Everybody is talking about shedding -- all of my boxers have shed. It just does not come off the carpet and stick to you because those short needle like hairs stick in the carpet!! All of my boxers never started to shed until they were around 2 -- I don't know why but that is what I always noticed.

Henry

He looks like my Tyson! He's a boxer/dobie mix. We (stupidly) had his ears "done", but they don't stand up. He's twelve now and weighs in at 110 - and he's not overweight! Your Henry is a handsome boy!

I've got to say that he looks alot like our boxer/lab mix, Cheyenne - only at least twice her size (she hovers around 50 lbs. at 4 years old). But she does have the boxer personality and that's why we decided to rescue a boxer when we got our second! If he has the boxer personality, that's all that matters anyway!

By the way, Cheyenne sheds MUCH more than Winson. Her coat feels a little thicker than his and it may be that she has something of a double coat (I think labs have something like a double coat - it kind of waterproofs them).
