Not peeing on potty pads!

Our little girl is 9 weeks and she is slowly getting better with not just going wherever she feels like going, but here's my problem. We keep her gated in the kitchen (fairly small area) while we are not home. In there she has her fed, bowls, a blanket, few toys, and a potty pad. But when she is in there she doesn't pee on the pad. I've tried spraying it and everything. How do I get her to go on them while she is in there?

Here's a couple suggestions that come to mind:

1. Move the pad to where she IS going (if she's going in roughly the same spot usually) or

2. Cover the entire area with pads, then gradually remove them one at a time until you only have one left. That's usually how people do paper training.

Is she peeing near the pad at all?

With my first pup we lived in an upstairs apartment and so we couldn't train him to go outside. We started with puppy pads because he was only a couple weeks old (We got Cubby at 6 days old) and didn't move around too much. By the time he was about two weeks old (his eyes weren't even open yet) he understood to use the potty pads just because of the scent that went with them. The problem I found with piddle pads is that as soon as he smelled the pad, he'd go which generally meant that his nose was over the pad and the rest of his body was over my kitchen floor or even my carpet! As he got older, he started to get the idea with the pads and centered himself on the pad before he started going but we weren't always that lucky! Eventually we litter box trained him once he was large enough to get into a box.

Luckily, we're now in a home with a huge backyard. Potty-training him was super easy. He had once accident the first day we took him home and hasn't had one since. And he'll hold it forever! The only reason I know that is because if it's raining, he refuses to go outside and use the restroom. Last week he held it for about 12 hours before finally giving up and going outside!

Use the Pad to wipe up her pee!

We first trained Xena to go on our enclosed patio which is outdoors and concrete. We placed 3 puppy pads in all of the corners and each side of the corner. Then, when she peed on the concrete (or once in the house on the carpet too) we took a pad and soaked up the pee and placed it where we wanted her to go. She still misses occasionally because now we only use them in the middle of the night when it is too rainy and dark to take her to the back on her leash. But she knows now that when we so "go potty" that she needs to go to one of the corners farthest from the house doors and do what she came to do. Also, we took soiled puppy pads to the back fenced in dog run we have to transition her to using the outdoors instead of the patio concrete. She does fine now and is working on learning to jump up and ring bells we have hung from our backdoor to tell us when she needs to go out to potty. This is because she does go to the backdoor when she needs to go but she rarely if ever barks and because of our washer and dryer, we can't see the back door from other rooms in our house. So, she is learning to jump up and ring the bells to let us know she needs to go out. We will let you know how she progresses in mastering this new skill.

Pads didnt work here either

I would have never thought of covering an entire area. I guess because I did not confine her in one area. Good idea though.
My Maggie would never go on the pads either so, a soon as she was taken out of the crate, I took her right outside. She always went, and it cut down on accidents inside. Her play time out of the crate increased as she held out longer. Then I trained her on the bell to let me know when she had to go ( I got this idea from of course" Boxer World" People think that she's so smart and I think any dog or pup can learn. Just put her/ his paw on the bell right before going out. I think I started this about 5- 6 months and she had it down in 2 weeks. Good Luck!
