Not funny anymore

Lola & Casper are able to open the doors in the house, up till now it's been quite funny although a bit of a pain.
Well last night when I put them to bed for the night I got to the top of the stairs going to bed myself & Casper started hamering on the hall door, he eventually opened it and was whining. He also opened the cupboard under the stairs door and I don't want him in there as our bin is in there, going to get a bolt today for that me thinks. I left him as long as I could (was really noisey) and everytime went down put him back in the kitchen and to bed and went back up.
Well this happened another couple of times so i thought maybe he needed another pee so I took him out in the garden (ok he wouldn't come out so I carried him) he did do a pee so I got him in bed again and went back up. He kept on doing it over & over until he finally stopped but he was doing it for almost an hour and I had visions of never getting to bed. In the end I didn't even speak to him but gestured to his bed, turned my back and went.
Eventually he stopped.
The whole time Lola & Zebedee were in there beds and didn't move.

I just hope it doesn't happen again tonight because it woke everyone else up and they're not very happy with him. I wonder why he did this?

Casper you rotten boy! I'm telling you it's those "magical opposable thumbs". Do you think that he just wants to be with you? It sounds like he's made his mind up and he isn't sleeping in the kitchen any more. Or maybe it's just the fact that he CAN do it? I had a boy(Petey) that would always mysteriously be out of his crate when we got home. We didn't know how, the top lock was always locked but the bottom one wasn't. Anyhow, one day I was getting ready to walk out of the door, and I heard this god awful screaming. Now you have to know that Pete was a boxer mix that weighed 100 pounds, no small dog. Back to the story, I went to the laundry room, where we kept him, and to my utter shock and disbelief, there was this 100 pound dog squeezing himself out of the crate at the bottom!!! He scraped fur off of him and screamed horribly, but he did it one more time after that, and finally I had to leave him out. So, maybe Casper is saying, no more kitchen at night for him. I too would probably get the deadbolt, but will he scratch the door to pieces? It is sometimes hard staying one step ahead of these guys!! Good luck to you and I hope that there is a solution.

Tricky one

I had the same problem with Wilma, constantly scratching at the door because she wanted to be with us......on the bed no doubt!
I heard this tip from someone and it worked a treat. When hes at it next time, creep downstairs (without him hearing footsteps) and take a rolled up newspaper (placed outside the kitchen door before you go to bed), then smack it 5 times very hard on the floor just outside the door. If you have carpet then you may need to do it against the wall. If he does it again repeat. He'll learn to associate scratching at the door with a horrible loud bang. Whatever you do dont go in to the kitchen, and dont speak to him.......thats exactly what he wants.

Yes the door is scratched up to bits :( At one point I really banged on the door and it coincided with him rapping oon the handle, didn't work. Will try the newspaper if it happens again, hopefully it won't. God please don't let it :(

I feel your pain.Mia was/is my problem child. She can even open the refridgerator. I honestly didn't think I would live through her adolesence. I always joke that if Mia had been my first dog I would either be a one dog home or a cat person today.
