Worry Wart

Boxer Pal
I have a boxer that is about 9 months old and weighs about 47 pounds. Over the weekend I changed his food and the place where he eats. I didn't switch the food properly. But I noticed that he wasn't eating. So I went back to his old food, still not eating, then I put the bowls back to where it used to be. He still does not eat. He only eats if I stand right next to him and encourge him to eat. What could be the problem, and suggestions????

not sure, maybe it will take time following the changes you made. My 8 mos old boy just started with not eating alot of food. He needs to be coaxed and encouraged. He's happy to eat treats all day-but seems disinterested in his food. Sorry I couldnt have more helpful advice.

THANKS!! I makes me feel better knowing that there is other boxers that are doing the same thing. I have started to mix wet food in with his dry and he gobbles it up and goes back to the bowl hoping there is more. I am going to slowly intergrate it out and hopefully that will do the trick! I hope I don't have to keep mixing wet food.

Oscar's Mom

Oscar did the same thing for a while. Sometimes it would take him 2 days to eat a bowl of food. I just found ways to make it more tempting for him. I mixed in soft food or, for a real treat, pour a little warm bacon grease over the food. He would always finish the food right away when I did that. We have since switched food (Royal Canin Natural Blend) and he loves it so I don't have to do those things anymore.

Good luck with your pup.

hand fed pup

Rush went through a stage where he would only eat if we picked up his dog food and hand fed it to him. He gradually got over that, but as long as we picked it up and let him eat it out of our hands he was happy.

He is now 9 mos old and 47 pounds as well. A lot of times people think he looks too skinny, but our vet says that he is fine.
