Max is going to be a year old next month, and we've had him since March (got him from Boxer Rescue when he was six months old). At that time we fed him Pedigree, puppy food, and switched to adult food when he was 8 months. However, the past few weeks he hasn't been eating as much. Yesterday he didn't finish his breakfast until 6:30 p.m. Before he woofed down his food. Should I try switching brands or adding wet food with his dry?? Thanks in advance.

I believe your best bet first of all is not to have your pup on a large breed formula, boxers are a medium breed dog.

And my Harley is a picky eater sometimes too. But I put his breakfast down for him at 10:00 am and about 15-20 minutes later if it is not all gone I take it up. I do the same for him for his dinner and supper. This way he knows that if he does not eat his meal he will have to wait until his next meal to be fed. Your pup won't stave to death, he will eat when he is hungary.

There are many great threads to be found with the search option here on boxer world, they have helped me very much.:)

My vet told us to do the same, if in a certain amount of time she doesn't eat, pick it up. There have been days that she won't eat much breakfast or dinner, but when she is really hungry, she will eat it all. I am in the middle of changing food because I think she was tired of what we had. So, she has been eating breakfast and dinner. I was told that when they are in a growing spurt, they will tend to be more hungry. I was worried at first about her not eating, but we do supplement with doggy treat bones during the day, so I don't think she will starve.

I wouldn't switch foods because the dog is eating less, but maybe switch foods because there are better ones out there than Pedigree?

I feed raw (Lady was a picky eater too and I couldn't get a quality kibble here in Brazil), but some of the recommended kibbles out there are Canidae, Wellness, Solid Gold, etc. Do a search and you will find out tons.

Your dog will probably be a better eater and you will have to pick up less poop (less fillers=less waste products), both of which are pleasant results!

Good luck, Mariah.
