Unless he has developed an allergy to something in the Innova...

and I am not sure if that would happen over the course of a weekend. Right now he is about an hour post feeding and played outside with his brother for about 45 minutes and the ears are all red again. I am not sure about this. I will give him Benadryl if he starts to get itchy but I would like to pinpoint the allergen if possible.

It could be something in his food, or it could also be the grass. I did have Ronin tested for allergies about a year ago (and yes, it wasn't cheap) He's allergic to certain grasses, tree pollen's, molds, dust and dust mites. He used to break out on his belly too and got pretty red in his ears. Fortunately, Ronin has pretty much outgrown his allergies. His tummy does break out a little bit occasionally, but it goes away pretty quickly. Best of luck in figuring out what is bothering your baby :)

Update

I took Buster to the Vet today and he took scrapings, fungal swabs, and gram stain swabs. We are now waiting to see what the definitive diagnosis is as allergies are still in the differential. Thanks again to all who responded.

re: demodex

Going to the vet is absolutely the best decision; as the proud mama of 2 very lively big boxer brothers who are both prone to skin disorders, I can tell you with 100% certainty that demodectic mange is not itchy in lots of cases. Both my fellas had bouts with the demodex curse at around 6 months of age with no scratching. I knew from their genetic background that this was very likely to happen, but immediate and aggressive treaments worked miracles. One of them is currently going around again. I thought he had some boo-boos from boxing with his brother so I put off the vet trip and suddenly he had lost hair over large areas and had red bumps on his chest, neck, belly and ears; he looked terrible but still no scratching. Once again we are treating this condition very aggressively and there's still hope that he will outgrow it over time. I wish you all the best in finding the source of your baby's problems. Sorry this is so long but I thought you should be aware that lack of scratching does not rule out anything where skin problems are involved. Please keep us posted - I know your fella will overcome and romp nonstop very soon !

Scraping from yesterday were inconclusive so we went back for more today. Still nothing. They sent off fungal cultures from his elbows and they will take a week to grow. So right now it is a fungus vs. allergies. The vet wants to treat it as a fungus until proven otherwise. We came home with Malaseb shampoo for a twice weekly bath and Pyoben gel for the elbows and hocks. I will give it a try.

Update on Buster

Well, all the results are in. The vet couldn't find anything on the original or the second set of scrapings ad cultures. It looks like it was allergies. He is on Wellness F & SP now and his skin is all cleared up. I am being very careful to only give him treats that have the same ingredients as the food that he is getting as well. Thanks again to everyone for you help and your concern.

I'm so glad to hear that the OMH helped Buster! Hopefully, this simple change in his diet will do the trick :) Please keep us posted on how Buster is doing on this new food and good luck!

try this

we had the same problems with Zoe. We put her on a fish and potato diet but also use a spray called Topagen wich the vet gave us and it is working very well.

Benadryl worked great for me

My Sophie has a problem with getting the red bumpy rash on her belly when we visit my in-laws and she goes exploring. But a few days on Benadryl and that clears her right up.

Good Luck!
