about my pup's rash inside his ears and on his belly and now I have a new problem. It seems as if he has dry, scaly patches on his elbows. I had originally thought that his problem was due to alergies which still may be the case. Would allergies also manifest as scaly patches on the skin as well? The rash on his belly seems to be clearing up and his ears look miserable though he scratches them no more than his usual once or twice a day. He does not notice the spots on his elbows at all. I think this is affecting me more than him. Anyone else have these types of problems with their doggies? Any ideas at all? Thanks, Laura

I would take him to the vet. Or call and ask questions. May be they will know Im shure they will know. If he is sick you dont want it to get worse. good luck to you.

Before I had my Boxer, one or my other dogs had really tough skin, almost like an elaphant's, under her shoulders and around her elbows, it turned out to be a food allergy. Once we switched her food it cleared up.

My seven year old had allergies when she was younger and that is exactly how she looked, she seems to have out grown it but elbows still remain scaly.
she doesn't get the rashes anymore and I tried every dog food out there until I found the right one for her.
The strangest thing for her is that she can not tolerate lamb, which is usually well tolerated.
you need to pin point what your dog is eating that is not tolerted.
My vet origianelly put her on a fish and potato diet, but she didn't do well with that, she actually broke out in hives and looked like a leopard.
I finally put her on a chicken and rice dog food, and belly ears and toes all cleared up, no more redness itching and chewing.
Like I said though those scaly elbows never went away but they don't bother us either.

I just took my Little girl Sydney to the vet for the same thing you are telling us. He said it's most def. allergies to food. I started her on Natural Choice Lamb&rice. We hope this helps if not we go on Z&D prescript. food. Will probably get a full allergy test too. He said it would cost 275.00. HMMMMM. Good luck with your boxer.

Thanks!

Thanks for all replies. My first thoughts were either a grass allergy or food allergy. He is eating Innova Adult and I watch his treats closely to make sure they do not contain corn, wheat, or liver as they tend to upset his stomach. Over the weekend, my Mom gave him a few of the Zuke's Mini Naturals Salmon flavor so I originally thought it might be that. The only thing in that different from his normal poultry based feed and treats was the salmon, tapioca, and gelatin. So, he has had no more of those since Sunday. This morning, the belly still has some bumps but they are not red. The ears have crusted a bit and remain bumpy but not as severely and are not red. I think I will watch him again today and see if I can pinpoint grass as the source if he happens to get red again. I was under the understanding that mange (both sarcoptic and demodectic) is itchy. With his symptomology and the fact that he does not seem to be bothered by this, I am somewhat hesitant to take him to the vet at this point. Again, thanks for al ideas.

that might make sense as my boxer got the hives after the vet put her on a fish and potato diet and I fed her salmon. Good luck, keep trying you will find it. It is usually a food allergy that presents like that because it is systemic. I had thought grass too when it was happening to us.

We had food allergies with Molly and what we ended up finding out was that she was allergic to beef. We switched or IVD (vet prescribed food) and all the problems we were having cleared. IVD is expensive, and we couldn;t purchase it in any larger than a 20 lb bag, so we compared ingredients and found that she can also handle Natural Choice, chicken, rice and oatmeal. This food is for sensative stomachs. Now there is no saying that beef is your dog's allergy, but the sensative stomach tends to have less of the byproducts and the food that is more likely to cause an allergic reaction. I am not a vet but this is what I was told by one, so hope this helps.
