OK... how about cooking up some chicken and rice for him to see if you can tempt him into eating and maybe firm up his stools? About 1/2 and 1/2 between the chicken and rice. If he'll eat that for a couple of days it may help settle him down? It's easy to digest and often help with diarrhea.

You can also put a tablespoon of canned pumpkin (NOT the pie mix, but plain pumpkin) on his meals. This will also firm up his poops. Don't use more than a tablespoon, though, or you will get the opposite results with the poop. Not sure how a little helps firm, but it does. And, the pumpkin is an inexpensive fix. Sorry to hear you're going through a recovery period yourself. Hope you're up and going soon, and feeling much better.

Good suggestion... I'd forgotten about the pumpkin. There's a lot of fiber in pumpkin. Just start kinda slow with it so you don't clog him up ;)

yeah, I've used pumpkin with my little guy before. He had loose stools when we got him due to a drastic food switch. He grew up on purina dog chow- I wanted him off of that ASAP and refused to buy and support purina, so he was switched to the Canidae cold turkey, so he got pumpkin the first week or so we had him.

Today he is a little firmer, and seems to want to eat, but I am holding food until tonight, to give his belly time to settle. Hopefully he just ate something that didn't agree with him or something.

Don't worry

Bo was given to me by a guy who crated him 15 or so hours a day. We got him at 9 months old, he was 45 lbs at the time. This was back in November...fast forward to now...

He is still about 45 lbs, give or take a pound, very tall and muscular, but has not gained any weight since we got him. He checked out good at the vet, but I thought that boxers continue to grow to about 18 months, weight wise til about 2-3 years. What am I doing wrong with Bo that he does not put on weight well?

He is currently eating 2.25 cups of Canidae in the morning and the same at night. He gets exercise with Jetta daily...Jetta is also on the small side, rather short and stocky...but she is putting on some weight.

Hello Myboxerbaby .The solution to your problem maybe easier then you think!!. If I was you
the first thing I would do is contact the breeder if you don't know the number you can obtain it threw American Kennel Club. Find out the sizes of his parents ,if they both are on the smaller side 8 times out of 10 he's more than likely is going to be a smaller breed Boxer. My
little girl Jada's mom maxed out at 48lbs and they can't keep weight on her because she is so active and her Dad is 65lbs ,her 12 yr old Grandmother is 53lbs and her 11 yr old Grandfather is 63-65lbs both still living ,so I knew what to expect out of her growth. Right now she is 14 wks and weigh in at 16.5 lbs and also is feed Canidae 1.5 cups per feeding ,not many bones showing at all alot of muscle with her smaller build. Our breeder also have been using Canidae for 14 yrs and it is a great dog food. So don't worry to much about the weight ,put some focus on his genetics . Studies have shown that Boxers that are 80-100lbs have a shorter life span the heart, hips can't take all that weight . Try feeding him snacks between meals. But if he have been checked for parasites and don't have any and your vet has given him a good bill of health then don't worry . Take care
