Welcome!

The park is at Ben Brenman Park behind the little league field. Check back a few pages for diections. Do Not Go to the Park on Duke Street! It's very close but not the good one.

No. VA Boxer Bash November 21st 1pm-Ben Brenman Park, Alexandria

Sounds like the 21st works for a lot of people! Erica, we hope Riley can come out and play too! It will be so much fun for our Boxers to meet and for us to meet. BellasMom, is there a landmark at the park where we should meet? Not like we could miss all the kidney bean wiggles.....

I copied/pasted the directions to Ben Brenman Park; here they are:
From I95 (north or south): Take the Van Dorn Street exit North (left at the top of the exit). Go to the third light and make a right onto South Pickett Street. This ends at Duke Street where you will make a right. Go through the next light (CVS and Honda dealer on left) and take the 2nd right (Brenman Park). It's a small uphill exit that ends at the park. There is a small rec bldg with a parking lot straight ahead and one to the right (which will probably be full if there is a soccer game on). If this lot is full you need to drive around the lake to the far corner where there is another lot. Next to the parking lot is a little league field. Walk around this and the there is a path going across a small bridge. You will see the dog park as you cross the bridge.

From 395: Take the Duke Street exit. Go past Landmark Mall, straight towards Old Town, I think it's 6 lights to where the CVS and Honda dealer are, after which you take the 2nd right (Brenman Park). You will see the dog park as you cross the bridge.

the 21st...

I think if you can find the little league field, you should be able to find the dog park. It is really easy. Plus, all this wind has blown most of the leaves off of the trees around the bridge and you can just about see most of the dog park or at least the people at the dog park! Sometimes all you need to do is follow the barking. LOL! Bella has some bassett hound puppy friends that are usually there and they have a lot to say! :)

Riley goes to the orthovet tommorow so we are keeping our fingers (and paws) crossed for good news! Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully she can come out to play on the 21st too!! If she's not allowed to play yet, then maybe we can come and say hi anyway!

Please keep Riley in your thoughts!

Update on Riley

Hi all,

Thanks for sending Riley all of your wonderful boxer wiggles and kisses!! They certainly have been helpful so far. So here's where we're at with her knee problem so far...she went to the orthovet last Wednesday and he pretty much ruled out ACL damage (hallelujah!). They did a full blood panel on her (to rule out lyme disease which can attack the joints) and those came back clear. He mentioned another possibility being OCD which I don't really understand. So, Riley went back this morning for a joint tap under sedation (the orthovet was going to do a second round of x-rays but decided to make that the next step since finances are also an issue). Vet said that the fluid from her knee seemed a little bloody which could be from soft tissue trauma, but the fluid went out to a lab for analysis so we get the results from that in a few days. $700 later and still no conclusive answers (which drives me nuts...I hate waiting!) and we still have to keep resting her with leash only walks. Through all of this, I haven't seen her favoring the knee in almost a week. When she went to the ortho for the first time, he took a walk with us and said he didn't see a limp. The vet hasn't seemed too concerned about this being anything too serious...I guess it is all a step-by-step process of ruling out one thing or another. I just want Riley to be able to go back to playing off-leash because she just loves it so much!

Please keep the awesome boxer vibes coming because definitely working so far!! Thanks for the support! I will keep everyone updated...its so nice to know that our BW friends care.

Good for Riley!!!!!! So glad she is feeling better. Hopefully it was just too much fun she was having running so much as boxers tend to do. Keep us posted.

D.C. pup, will travel to VA

I would love to get together. My boy, Corbett, is 4.5 months old. We are more than happy to hop in the car and head over to VA. He doesn't have any Boxer playmates. He has a Golden Retriever "girlfriend" in his puppy class and his best neighborhood buddies are an English Bulldog puppy and a Cairn Terrier puppy! Where and when?
