No sleep for Mommy

Well, DH is out of town and Emma is not happy (neither am I). The problem is this, since DH isn't here to distract her I can't get any sleep. She won't let me sleep longer than about 4 hours a night, and if I try to nap, she will lay with me for about 30 minutes and then lick my face to wake me up. And just to make it more maddening, right when she has me good and awake and petting her, she will fall asleeep in my lap and leaving me unable to fall back asleep! GRRRRRR! Everybody keeps telling me I should put her in her crate so I can sleep, but she's in there all day while I work so I feel horribly guilty locking her in there at night too. It's just so unfair to her. But, if I don't get some sleep soon I'm going to go crazy!!!

Let's see: going crazy (really crazier cause we are crazy about our babies which might have gotten you in this sleep deprived mess) or put Emma in her crate

I vote for the crate till you get some sleep. LOL!

I know your pain. When Lucy broke her leg, the first two nights were horrible. She would sleep and wake up every 10 minutes screaming from being so agitated with the cast on her leg. I got so crazy I started calling people telling them to please come watch her so I could sleep. Of course nobody could really do that at 2am....I ended up falling asleep with her in my lap, sheer exhaustion...I really thought I was going to die I felt so sick from lack of sleep.

I vote for putting her in the crate. I'm sure she'd be perfectly happy with some treats or a filled up Kong!

I'd say put her in her crate. I know that you feel bad but you need to get some sleep. Good luck!

Don't feel so bad about using a crate at night too. It's only temporary and some people choose to do that anyway. While my puppies are still training they are crated at night. I will stop crating when they have matured. I also work in the day and come home for lunch. You need your rest and Emma won't mind the crate as much as you do Hope all works out for ya!

She is still very young so crating her is a good way to go. We crate Rogue for the night, she has no distractions & so sleeps better.

As soon as she wakes up you could try putting her in her crate. She will soon figure out that it's not a good idea to wake Mommy up. At least not if she doesn't want to go in her crate.

To the crate she goes

Well, it appears that Emma has made the choice for me. In the middle of the night last night she decided that rather than wake me up she would chew up my bathroom cabinet. One whole side of it is in shreds. So it appears that she is not at the point where she can be trusted not to be destructive if I'm not awake to watch her. It makes me sad to do it, but I've got to get some sleep and I can't afford new cabinets on a regular basis. Thanks for your advice everybody!

It's not really a punishment to put them in the crate. You are doing the best for your baby by keeping her in the crate when you can't watch her. lovicon My family thinks I am terrible that Maxwell is in the crate when I go to bed. :( But, they don't think about him chewing electrical wires or eating something he could choke on. Good for you! And for your furniture!

What are you doing for exercise for your baby? A tired pup is a good pup! I agree with everyone else though on crating, you need to sleep without worrying that your pup will hurt herself getting into things. Good Luck!
