Update - stools have been perfectly normal since that one bout of mucous on Tuesday. Her appetite is back - eating food dry with no coaxing. She is also now acting completely normal (hyper).

We will keep her on the Solid Gold until that bag is done, and then maybe try Innova EVO. Maybe it was the rice in her previous foods she couldn't handle. I don't want to keep her on the Holistique Blendz, I don't think it has enough calories in it for a young active boxer.

Well, if you do decide to try EVO at a later date, they do make a reduced fat version (uses oil instead of chicken fat) that might be the best bet there if high amounts of fat in the diet aren't going to suit.

Update again

So.. she has been great for a few weeks now on the Solid Gold Holistique Blendz. Stools are perfect. However, most meals she still needed coaxing to eat it, because of the blandness of the food and low energy content.

So.. bought a small bag of EVO, and mixed it 40% EVO 60% Hol. Blendz. and started feeding that mixture Wed. night. Noticable change in energy. Fine all day Thurday. Friday morning - not feeding well, won't eat. Diarrhea at noon. Very bad pink mucousy stool Friday afternoon. Once that was out, she was feeling better, and ate something finally - gave her a sample pack of Barking at the Moon, and another sample pack at night. Late last night fed her some more EVO, and again this morning.

This morning's stool was pretty much normal, and she's acting normal/feeling great. I guess we'll wait and see how she reacts with more EVO. Or.. she's allergic to chicken.. or it's the high fat content.

Thoughts?

My Jake had a similar problem this past December/January - vomiting, blood in stool, rumbling stomach........got so bad we took him to the hospital and they tested for all parasites and did an ultra-sound. Before the ultra sound they thought is pancriatitis(sp?), but the ultra sound showed gastritis. They hydrated him, kept him overnight to make sure the vomiting stopped. We switched his food to Duck & Potato (and it has made a tremendous difference), I think he was allergic to chicken & grains such as rice/corn. BUT ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS is the vet put Jake on Pepcid AC (not Pepcid Complete). 1 pill 2X day for a week and then 1 pill 1Xday for another week. Pepcid AC works! Whenever Jake's stomach starts to act up, I give him a Pepcid AC in the morning and night for a day or two and he's fine. In the beginning it was every other week or so, but now he hasn't had any problems in a few months. Check with your vet, this may really help you. Good Luck

Monday night update - she has been eating 100% EVO since Friday night, and doing fine. Had to switch to 100% because when it was mixed with the Solid Gold Holistique Blendz, she was spitting out the Solid Gold and just eating the EVO.

Stools have been solid since that one bad one on Friday. Appetite has been fine, except for this afternoon, after spending the afternoon with me in the backyard in the heat - she didn't want to eat at first - probably due to the heat. Ate her late night snack no problem.

I would think if she was allergic to chicken, it would be a constant problem - the diarrhea wouldn't have gone away after an entire weekend of feeding her EVO which contains chicken.

I guess we'll just wait and see what happens. I hope the EVO works out.. I'd like to get on a 4 month routine of feeding her 2 bags of regular EVO (chicken/turkey) and then 2 bags of EVO RM (beef/lamb/buffalo/venison).

Well, that does sound promising :) And I think you're right about no chicken allergy - it would certainly be a constant problem if it were the case.

The one small question that remains is that of possible pancreatic problems - which would probably present in periodic flare-ups, exacerbated by fat in the diet. But you'd need a veterinary diagnosis for that - and if it were to be the case, there's always the reduced fat version of EVO to consider (uses oil instead of chicken fat).
