I have a boxer in Thailand and we have been feeding her various types of dog food because she doest get to like them after a few bags. When I try to check on the Dog Analysis website, I dont see a lot of the brands available here in Bangkok (Royal Canin, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Pedigree, ANF, Avoderm). Right now we are feeding her Royal Canin Maxi 32 - no Boxer specific here with wet Pedigree just to spice up her food.

She would gobble for several days and then lose her taste for it. Can you please help me? ... What can I do to at least make her eat more?

She is 7 months and 20 kilos already but you can still see her ribs and her hip bone. Is this normal? This is our first boxer.

Clueless in Bangkok.

All of those foods listed are not good foods. Do you have available to you such foods as Prairie, Fromm, Canidae, Timberwolf, or Solid Gold? Those are all much higher quality dog foods than what you have been feeding. Most people don't realize what they are feeding their dog until they do a little research, but most foods out there at the grocery store and chain pet stores are all really not good for your dog to be eating. Do you have any pet food specialty stores in your area? As for the ribs and hip bones showing, I believe you should see the last 2 or 3 ribs on your dog, but the hip bone I am not sure about, but Id think if its jutting out, then no, that is not normal and maybe a vet visit is in order to be sure theres nothing medically wrong with your dog.

Good luck to you and keep us updated with your dogs progress.

eating problem

i can see more than 3 bones in the ribs, the vet say she's fine, she's energetic, but even with proper exercise and enough play time she's still not eating very well in a day she only eat atleast 4 to 5 cups of kibbles. our vet say's it normal but the way i look at her it's not but again this is my first boxer so i really dont know what to do?

what about BARF? can i try to use this diet for her?

Actually those listed are all that I have found in any petshop or grocery or even in the expensive vet clinic where we bring her for check ups. ANd importing dog food will be out of the question as this is i guess way too expensive for my pocket.

I agree..the foods you listed are not good quality dog food.
When you are able to find good quality kibble you can always add things for more flavour. Like plain nonfat yogurt, raw or slightly cooked egg once a week, canned sardines, etc..

I bet when you find good quality dogfood like: Timberwolf your pup will be scarfing it down, well mine did.

You can always try homecook or Barf too!! There is alot of information about that feeding on this website: http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=5

Do you have a picture of your pup???

My friend feeds her 4 dogs Canidae. They live in Bangkok. If you need to know where to buy good quality kibbles I surely can find out for you. I would love to feed my dog raw diet as well but I live in Singapore and I am not sure about quality. Besides it is always hot and humid. I do home cooked meal instead.

Hey that's great ... Would you be so kind as to check with your friend where we can get that dog food. If its available in Bangkok, we will search for it and check it out.

Thanks in advance!

still not eating very well in a day she only eat atleast 4 to 5 cups of kibbles.

4-5 cups a day seems like an awful lot of food to me. I feed my dogs 1 3/4 cups each a day, BUT, they do need to lose a bit of weight. But I'd probably feed them no more than 2 cups of food a day anyway. Even before their weight gain I never fed them more than 2 cups a day. So, if you are feeding 4 -5 cups a day, and your dog is very thin, there may be an underlying health problem, perhaps a thyroid problem? It might be worth checking into. I know feeding high quality kibble means feeding less (I feed Timberwolf) so maybe the food you are feeding your dog just isn't cutting it nutrition wise so your dog is always hungry because what he's eating is just passing right through him. And also, from my experience, our dogs will eat whatever we put down for them. So if thats 2 cups or 6 cups, they will likely eat it all, especially if you are putting canned food in there.

Sorry for not answer earlier. There is a pet shop called Manoon, located in diff. area in Bangkok (about 10 branches). You can find it easily on line. My friend said that it was the lowest price for good quality kibbles you could get in Bangkok. Good Luck!
