I was outside doing some grilling this weekend. Kaiser, my 6 ½ month old boxer was keeping me company. (Well, most likely he thought he was keeping the steaks I was putting on the grill company.) Anyway, I had set the beer that was keeping ME company :) down on a little table and was seasoning the steaks. When I turned around, I discovered that Kaiser REALLY likes beer. He had tipped the beer bottle over on the table and was happily lapping up the contents as it poured out. I took the bottle away and emptied the contents on the ground and set the bottle back down. It didn't take him any time at all to have the bottle tipped back over and proceed to shove his tongue farther that I thought possible into the bottle. I had to take the bottle away as he just wouldn't leave it alone.

Just goes to prove that boxers are indeed a German breed. All of us Germans like our beer.

Love it! If only you had a camera . . . I wonder what would happen if a dog got enough alcohol into his/her system to be drunk. I would never try on purpose, of course, but now I'm curious. They're mammals, just like us, so I bet they would get drunk.

BrycW,

Funny story! Yes, as bad as it probably is for them, beer has a strong attraction.

I was more drawn to your dog's name. My dor is named "Keyser" as well. I wanted the name to have a German influence. However, the spelling is sort of a "tribute" to the mythical character, Keyser Soze, in the movie Usual Suspects.

Our dog does the same thing...loves when people have beer. I guess there is some kind of attraction. We had house guests over the weekend and like you did some grilling and beer drinking. The company had to watch their beers anytime they would get up to go inside or anytime they sat it down for that matter. I thought mine was the only one who is obsessed with alcohol. She comes around almost like you are about to feed her a juicy steak.

I bet it was funny to watch though, I can just see it now with the tongue almost all the way stuck in the bottle.

yup.... unfortunately when i was younger and more ignorant in high school my old dog Tre who was a chow/rot mix got ahold of some beer that someone gave him at a party we had at my house... he acted SO funny for about an hour until i assumed it wore off.... i remember calling him and him taking about half a minute to react and then turning to me with his big doggy grin and loping over...

would never want a pet in that situation again, but looking back i guess it was kinda funny

my pup (who was about 5 months at the time) found the tray that was under a leaky keg on new years. We tried to keep her and the other dogs out of it, but she kept returning. Te lsat time we called her away (before kenneling for the night) she looked up at us, walked 1/2 sideways across the room, and peed in middle of the floor. Terminator Stout did a number on her.

Be careful! I hear alcohol is extremly dangerous for dogs and have heard of dogs dying at high school/college parties b/c the kids thought it was funny!! :(I know this is not the situation in your case and that it was by accident so def not attacking you!
