We just went camping up in the Redwoods for Northern California and found that we couldn't bring our dogs on any of the trails. DH and I had to take turns going through the various beautiful redwoods groves while the other stayed with the fur-babies. I was pretty disappointed to say the least. I do think it’s becoming more and more common. :(

I think it is very unfortunate that irresponsible pet owners have caused problems in the parks and other areas so responsible pet owners cannot take their dogs there anymore. One of the best things is when you can take your dog with you!

There are quite a few parks around me that do not allow dogs even if they are on leads. I also find it frustrating that I can't take my dog to a park because of irresponsible owners. Most of the parks around here also charge a $300 fine if you take your dog into the park.

It really is starting to get out of hand. Before you know it...your dog will not be able to leave it's yard! Or worse yet...it's house! Who ever heard of a lake or park that doesn't welcome dogs?! I understand the sign that says ONLY LEASHED PETS ALLOWED. But NO DOGS...period...?! :confused:
I'm very thankful that Nevada is still a "fur-kid friendly" state. I know that Oregon is as well. Dogs are still welcome at all or most of the State Parks and Lakes.

Sorry that you had to skip the day of fun....because State Laws are starting to get out of hand! Hope you can find some place else to enjoy with your wonderful fur-kids.

around here it depends on where you wanna go. Most city parks allow dogs and have the doggy bags available. The canyons just depends on where and if it is in a "water shed" area. Some dont allow at all, some allow all the time, and others allow dogs on either even or odd days (some with no leash days!!) You're best if you just call the managing agency before you make plans. I would hate to get somewhere and not be allowed to take the dogs.

We when to nh to see the old man on the mountian and the sign also said no dog allowed so I had to stay behind. We go to maine every fall because in the fall dog are aloud on the beach in the fall and I call to make res at a hotel we have stayed at before and they told me capone was to big to stay there. I told them to look in there record and to see that we have stayed there before and we have never had a problem. And they did so they saw that in 3 yr he has never barked once or done damage so he can come with us. Thank God he would of had to have lost 35 lb to have gone on vac with us ( just kidding). I hate when they say they have to be under 55 lbs.

California is the WORST!

California is really bad about not allowing dogs anywhere. For a state that is supposed to be so dog friendly, Tess finds it rather UNfriendly. :(

For Californian's or Cali vacationers there's a great book called The Dog Lover's Companion to California. I don't go anywhere w/out checking the book first.

It really is too bad that there are so many bad dog owners who make it hard for us good dog owners to take our pooches wherever we go.

Oregon is a great place for dogs but apparently there are some people that don't appreciate that fact. Last summer we had some sicko place poisoned
meat that killed numerous dogs and made even more sick. As recently as last week, discovered in a park (both the off leash area as well as the leashed area) was approximatly 10 lbs of raw meat found. Preliminary results are showing no signs of poison but what the heck!! I'm scared to take my baby out.

Unfortunately, I have found the same to be true around here. We really don't have too many State Parks around, but there is one, and we used to take our dogs there all of the time. Then just a few weeks ago, decided to go (we hadn't been so far this year) and there's a NO DOGS ALLOWED INSIDE PARK sign. HOW RUDE! So, we turned around and went home and as far as I'm concerned won't go back again.

Kala-I'm very glad you enjoyed Lake Murray. I know my profile says I live in Alabama, but I was born in Ardmore and grew up in Lone Grove, OK. We spent EVERY weekend at Lake Murray and when we do get to go back to visit family, that's the only place I want to be. Glad to know they are still so pet friendly, though, b/c next time we'll have Boomer visitin' with us! :D
