DAkota loves chewing on everything, especially us. She is 7 weeks and mean as a snake, except when she is sleeping or hungy!! Tried giving her something else (Kong, treats, Bitter Spray, stuffed toy, pig ear, raw hide, etc, etc) she still prefers hands, feet and noses. She's making us bleed!!! Don't want to spank her.... forceful NO's and ignoring are not working.. Actually, correcting her makes her do it more. e start puppy obediance in 2 weeks....I don't think we can wait that long. Help!

I have the same problem! Rocky bites us when we are playing with him. Correcting him is doing no good, and ignoring him isn't working either. He even bit the trainer. We have started spraying him with a water bottle when he does it and that seems to be working okay. But I would also love suggestions. The only difference is my pup is five months old and has most of his adult teeth. Can we say ouch!!!

When we experienced this phase with our puppy we also had to consider the safety of our toddlers - then 3 & 4 - one thing that has worked for us is that my husband takes the lead with discipline/behavior modification finding what works and then training the rest of the family to deal effectively and consistenly with the situation. What worked was to hold Blake down for a few seconds - stern NO and a bit of a flip of the finger to his nose. He is still very mouthy (15 months old now) but never uses teeth anymore. We refused his efforts to play when this happened and ignored him as much as possible - sometimes just dad had the stamina to deal with it and the rest of us left the room! I must say - he is worth the effort and getting better everyday!

At this moment I can count approx 20 cuts and bruises from my girl biting me. I had to start putting toys in her mouth and if she refused to take it, I put her in "her room" until she calmed down. I have had her 2 months now and she gets better everyday. I thought she would never stop biting. I have the cuts and bruises now from her catching me off guard (I think she is being a good girl) and then she bites hard every once in a while. I also sprayed Binaca in her mouth a few times and she immediately quit biting me...I don't do it that often (it really freaks her out).

I'm glad I'm not the only one! As she gets older Gracie is getting better. She is now 12 weeks. She licks more and bites less now. Some things that help are: time out in her crate, a chew bone that she loves (we use a nalene one) and consistant consequences- if she bites she is in time out and gets NO attention. She hates to be in there when we are inside so this works. Her time outs only last about 5 minutes.
Hope this helps.

We had a problem with biting for the first two + weeks with
maximus. We still work with him everyday on biting but he is
so much better today! I think it is very important to remember
they are only pups and they tend to bite regardless of the breed.

We used three methods to stop the biting. The first method
and the most painful for the pup is to make them bite themselves.
Every time maximus would bite/nip I would take my index fingers and push his cheeks in then take my thumbs and push down on
his nose and force him to bite down on his cheeks. I hated doing
this but it really worked. The second method we use is to take
two or three fingers and push down his throat and make the
him gag a little. And the last method we use is to grab him by
the back of his neck roll him over on his back and take the other
hand a hold his mouth shut for a few seconds. Followed up with a stern NO.

I know all these methods sound harsh but they are done with the best intentions. Maximus hardly bites now but he still loves
to play with his mouth:D One of the funniest things he does instead of biting is he will bump you with his mouth closed! It's
amazing how they learn to adjust! Now if I could only get him to
tell me when he needs to go outside:p
