Hi everyone - my boyfriend has a 7-year-old female boxer that has been having random diarrhea overnight. She's always had a sensitive stomach and has had accidents when her schedule changes, but it's worse now than ever. The weird thing is that some nights she goes 14 hours with no problem, and the next night can't make it for 8. She has good energy and seems healthy otherwise. She gets fed once a day in the morning - 3 cups of Nutro Natural Choice for sensitive stomachs. My boyfriend is going to touch base with the vet and take in a stool sample but in the past they've tested it with no findings. In the meantime, any suggestions for a food switch? Do people think it would help to feed her twice a day instead? Thank you!

Is she have accidents in the house, or is she letting you know that she is desperate to go out?
First step would be to take her to the vet and see if they can find anything wrong.
I would definitely feed twice a day, you also might want to change her food as Nutros is not the best.

What is the consistency of her poop at other times of the day? If she's fed in the morning she probably is going poop during the day. It seems odd to me that she isn't get the diarrhea until the middle of the night.
If it is random, could it be that you are feeding something else on those days that causes the diarrhea? Rawhide, treats, table scraps? Is she getting into something that she shouldn't? Rabbit poop in the yard, the garbage, stealing from plates?
I would feed her nothing but her regular food twice a day for a couple of days and see if her poo consistency changes for the better. Make sure you are giving the correct portion size as over-feeding can cause diarrhea.
If that doesn't help, call the vet and bring in a stool sample. If that comes back clear then I'd think about a food change. I'd go grain-free but with a moderate (21%-28%) protein level.

Thanks for replying - yes, she is having accidents in the apartment. She typically has them in her crate (even though she has free range of the apartment at night). To our knowledge she's not whining or scratching at the door, although because we're asleep when it happens I can't be positive. I know my boyfriend is open to changing her food, so we'll definitely look into that.
Hi there - she generally has runny stools, so it isn't like the diarrhea is a huge departure for her, but the quantity sure seems larger in comparison to her usual stools. The timing is totally weird - when we take her out in the morning and at night she usually goes poop (at least a little bit). She gets absolutely no table scraps and treats only occasionally. We haven't seen an association between treats and stomach trouble. We also keep a pretty close eye on her when she's out and about. She has eaten goose poop a couple of times, but again, she's had diarrhea when she hasn't eaten that. I'll definitely check on the portion size.

My male Boxer Isaac was fine for the longest time and out of the blue diarrhea at 5 years old
healthy otherwise .. after some stool testing (negative) come to find out the dog food
changed the formula once i switched he was fine .. I feed my dogs "Taste of the Wild"
my new little pup has diarrhea now after being fine for 10 days I think he was eating the
cat fecal and some other strange stuff ... he is on a sensitive tummy diet the Vet recommends ... he might be stressing a little too cause he is in create for the first time
at 11 weeks

Sorry for late responds but wanted to be sure he took to it after full transition ...
I went with Earthborn puppy and he is doing great on it just (at times) has some gas from
it ... I may try Fromm in a few months only because of availability
Anyone using Fromm?
