I have noticed that lately my boy has been experiencing some bad dreams. When he sleeps he starts twitching and shaking and growls and makes some odd noises. It seems to be happening more each night. Is this normal? I didnt realize that dogs dream.

Mya always twitches in her sleep. It was really bad when she was a puppy. It was like a convulsion. The older she gets the less it happens. Now it is usually a leg kicking or something. She does dream a lot too. She is always grunting or growling. The other night she was woo wooing. Must have been a good dream!

I think dreaming is very normal. Markus would often run in his sleep. He even barked sometimes and would wake himself up. :)

I don't know if dogs dream or not, but I'm glad to hear that Rex's sleeping behavior isn't out of the ordinary; he does most of the stuff that you mentioned (except I don't ever remember him running in his sleep). He's very active and funny to watch when he sleeps; those times make-up for the times that he's an unholy terror when we're out on "pleasure" walks.

When he's awake, Rex is very strong and enthusiastic. With full-force, he lunges at things, people and other dogs; they act as though he is attacking them. I say: "ah, he loves everyone and thinks that everyone loves him too".

When he's active in his sleep, maybe he's dreaming about not being on a leash.

When Cinnamon was a pup-- well she still is a pup..but when she was younger, her dream shaking was so bad I thought she was having seizures. Since then her shaking is less violent but it still happens. She used to make motions like she was still suckling from her mom, she still does that. Now she growls in her sleep and does little barks.

Bella does this...she actually barks or whines in her sleep especially if she is really tired. I reach down and pet her tell her is ok and she drifts back to sleep...
