Our pup is whinning all night! I know this is to be expected as he has just been taken away from mom and siblings but how long does this whinning usually last? He keeps us up all night! Not to mention I have a 2 month old son on top of it! I thought this would only go on 3 or 4 nights...

Well, the whining could be seperation anxiety. Is the pup sleeping with you? In the bed? In a crate? Does he have to go potty? Most puppies do need to go potty atleast once through the night. Is he eating enough? If not, he could be hungry.

If you have a crate, put it in the bedroom with you. Give him a chew toy and stuffed animal to make it more comfortable. If you have a tshirt you wore, put it in the crate with him. Just the smell of you can be calming.

Until you figure out what he is whining about, it's hard to put a time frame on any behavior.

But remember, he's just a baby. Yes, babies whine and cry all the time. But it gets easier. I promise.

It took Gus a good two weeks before he stopped whining at night. He sleeps in our bedroom, in his crate with a blanket and stuffed animal. I also cover his crate with a towel because our other boxer and cats would wake him in the middle of the night. I think he feels more secure with the towel over his crate.

Hi

It took Bruno about 5 weeks to sleep through the night without ANY whining, so bear with it. He is crated at night - downstairs, first 2 weeks, I had to let him out twice a night and every time I put him back in he cried for about 5 mins. Then for the next week or so, he only woke up once a night and after I put him back in he would whine, but just a little and not as loud. Then he just woke up once and after going back in, I have told him to shhhhh and he was fine. Now he is 5 month old, and he hardly ever need toilet at night, so we have peacefull nite every night. :)
How is your puppy now? Hope hes doing great and you are sleeping again.
