Is there anyone in the New York metro area interested in have a little bash. I live in Queens and would be interested in trying to organize a little get together, perhaps when it gets a little warmer.

I would be - and there are a few boxers at the dog-run I go to - I could probably round up a few more people here in Manhattan. As a matter of fact, the dog run I go to is small and remote enough that if we timed it right we could probably have the place to ourselves, which would make for some great photos. It's right by the U.N. - by the East River, a really beautiful dog-run. Wherever or whenever you decide, post it here and let's see what we can do.

I'm glad someone finally responded. I was starting to think there were no New Yorkers in here. Anyway, your dogpark sounds good to me. Would late May be good for you, hopefully the weather will be OK by then, but who knows with this weather we've been having. And maybe by then we'll get some more people interested.

Good Afternoon,
Great to hear from fellow city dwellers. The boxer bash sounds great to me ! I will be picking up Rudy next Saturday from the breeder (8 weeks). I am really excited and have been counting the days & hours. A late April / May date will be a great time to further introduce him to metro-dogs from NYC. Any suggestions / comments anyone has regarding your expirences with your Boxers would be great.

PS- poyeman, are you refering to the dog run near the FDR under the 59th street bridge? We must be neighbors, I live midtown east.

No - the dog run is actually at 42nd street - I think it's called "Robert's Dog Run." I live in Kips Bay so it's a hike for me, but it's still the closest (and, I think) the best dog run. It's relatively small (relative to Madison or Washington Sq. Parks) but it's concrete so he doesn't step in disgusting dirt or mulch and his toenails don't need to be clipped as often.

May is fine for me - just say when and where and Bentley (and I) will show up!

not to rain on anyone's parade, but for those who will just be getting their puppies in may, I'm sure they won't have all of their shots and I've been told dog parks are havens for bacteria and viruses. You may want to wait a few months :( until they are well protected. (But I've also been told its very important to socialize them at that age so who knows) But to each his own, so if you do wish to come, I'm sure the more the merrier.

Thanks for the heads-up; We will check with his vet and heed his advice. Rudy has his last visit with the the breeders vet on Wednesday before he heads home with us this Saturday. Then he has another check up with my vet on Monday...Lots of visits for the little guy in such a short period of time, however it's better to get him used to such socialization and not fear a trip to the vet / stranger as a scary thing.

We will keep you posted and keep in touch to share our expierence and ask advice along the way. Again, Thanks for the heads up.

I know someone in the area with a 'fresh out of the oven' puppy too so maybe we could have a special puppy-only VIP area - in fact the 42nd St. dog run has a second, smaller section that would do very nicely.
