TOTW apparently has a new formula out - just came out within the past few weeks I think. I haven't been to the store in awhile but Rocky is getting low so I thought maybe we would try it. Here is some of the information: It is called "Sierra Mountain Canine" Anyway - just thought I'd share! Let me know if any of you have tried it and how your dogs like it :)

A lamb protein, grain-free formula with sweet potatoes and peas provides highly digestible energy for your dog. Made with real roasted lamb, this formula offers a taste sensation like no other. Supplemented with fruits and vegetables, this formula delivers natural antioxidants to help give your friend a healthy lifestyle. Your dog craves a taste of the wild. Go ahead and give him one.

Looks similar to their Pacific Stream version just made with lamb instead of fish.

Unfortunately I won't be able to use it since my guy is allergic to Lamb but hoping others will chime in with their experience and how it works out for them for you.

Good luck!

Also remember that their food is 100% refundable, so if you try it and your dog doesn't like it or doesn't do well on it return it to where you purchased it for a full refund.

Yea I noticed the protein wasn't as high as their other two forumulas which is a good variation :)

We will be shopping for more food shortly and I'll let you know.

Just curious, why is a lower protein a good change? I don't feed TOTW, but don't remember it being a really high protein food (like Orijen is). Johann is getting Acana (33% protein) right now, and I'm adding meat to every meal to bump up the protein level.

I hope the new formula works well for Rocky. Johann loves lamb :)

I *believe* TOTW is around 34 or 35% protein. I know for us that is too much for my dogs. My GSD and my senior Boxer both had HORRIBLE diarrhea on it. Switched them to the Pacific Stream and they had no issues and they've not had any issues with the Kirkland food or the new Pelican Bay food which are all around 25-26% protein.

So where I wouldn't say the two TOTW versions are high, they may still be too high for some dogs to be able to tolerate.

Just a FYI....
Anyone who opts to feed a lamb based diet should consider switching up the protein source every other month or so.
A lamb based diet has been shown to cause a Taurine deficiency in *some* dogs. This deficiency can lead to arrhythmia's.
When it was discovered that Cami had an arrhythmia at age 3 one of the first things the cardiologist asked was if she was being fed a lamb diet.
She was and we tested her Taurine levels. They came back low. We switched food and retested after about 6 weeks. The deficiency was still present and we started supplementation which she stayed on for the rest of her life.

Thanks cami for the heads up on the lamb only diet with a taurine deficiency. I had no idea!

Johann - I just meant I know some dogs can't tolerate HIGH protein levels so I like how TOTW has two LOWER protein ones, and two HIGHER protein ones. I was just excited and wanted to share it with everyone since I know there are so many boxers that get fed TOTW on this site. That's all :)

Rocky is currently on the wetlands which I think is 33% but I like that there is a fourth flavor to rotate through. we get them from a small store so whatever they have in stock the month we go is what we get. He loves the variety :)

great! thanks for the share!
my boys are on the TOTW prairie (yellow bag - venison, buffalo).. they love it!!

cami, thanks for the heads up! my boys had lamb a LONG time! (because they have horrible gas with bad chicken, and diarrhea with beef)

maybe i will try out that lamb and feed it to the pup once in a while..

they really love that TOTW. They didnt do as good with the duck version. They have been on TOTW for a year now.. but i have to say, they've been shedding ever since!

Well we got the sierra canine formula of TOTW - Rocky loves it. He at his 3 cups/day and then sat by the closet and whinned forever for more.

Either he really likes it or he must have been extra hungry that night!

So far so good :)
