New to BW

[Sparkys Dad]

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I am Sparkys dad. Sparky is a beautifull 50 pound, fawn puppy. Sparky is around 7 months old. My wife, kids, and I are happy to have Sparky in our lives. Does any one have some advice for digging? I don't think it's bordom, because he will start only five min. after being let out to go to the bathroom. Sparky is 90% a house dog, the 10% is due to the fact that sometimes it's just so beautifull outside you want him to go soak up some sun. Any advice would be great.

I am new to BW also. I have not had to deal with a digging problem but I have been told that because they are such clean animals to put their poop in the area that they are digging and they won't do it anymore. I am not sure if it will work but it might be worth a try.

Just wanted to thank everyone for welcoming us to BW. Have not been able to get on busy schedule with the kids and Sparky. Sparky went to school and learned a lot of new tricks. We had a great time and so did he. Thanks again.

I had a problem with my Stella digging when she was young. She always seemed to doit mainly by the fence around the periiter of the yard. Several things failed but what ultimately worked was wherever she would dig, we put her poop there and she would pick a new spot. We put poo there and so on. Eventually she stopped.

My male Beau was a little bit of a digger, but did it randomly around the yard. We just stayed on him and payed attention to him while he was outside when he didn't realize it. when we would catch him, he would be scolded. Try to not be physichal with discipline, just like positive reinforcement works on housetraining, they can tell when you are not happy by your voice. Just make sure he knows what he is being scolded for.

Yes digging can be a problem one way to encourage your dog not to dig is to be sure that their nails are kept trimmed and also vinegar/water mix in a spray bottle just spray the area where they are digging. Also putting a moth ball or 2 in the spot seems to discourage them!
