shastadaisy

Boxer Buddy
Hello!

I'm so glad I found this web site! I don't yet have a boxer but my fiance and I have been planning and preparing to get one. We would like to first get a girl and name her Shastadaisy (Shasta for short). We just think they are soo cute and match our personalities. We recently bought a house and one of the must have's of the home we were looking for was a big back yard to play with her in and there's a lake near by to take her for walks around or an occasional swim.

We've also been reading up on how to train and care for your boxer. The only thing holding us back right now is that we don't want to leave her home by herself all day while we are at work. She would be home for at least 8 to 9 hours and I just can't bare to do that to her. Especially when she is a pup. I know it's not possible for me not to go to the bathroom for 8 hours so I don't expect her to either. I know some people go to work and leave their pets at home all day but I also read that boxers shouldn't be alone for more than 3-4 hours at a time. I guess that might be different if we got another one to keep her company.

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas for us to handle this situation I would greatly appreciate your feed back. We've been wanting one of these beautiful dogs for sometime now and can't wait to give her a loving home.

Thanks!

Welcome! This is a great place to continue your boxer research! I hope you figure out a way to bring your girl home soon. Maybe you can come home during lunch or hire a dog walker, or even doggy daycare? Good luck!

Hello and Welcome.

When Max was a pup We hired a pet sitter to come in and walk him at midday. They lived across the street, so talk to your neighbors! He was in the crate for 4 hours at a time. Your right, more than 3 - 4 hours is alot for a baby. They have to pee and poop and their little bladders can't hold it for 8 or 9 hours. It's great to get a baby but they are alot of work too. Maybe you could consider Boxer rescue?? Their are so many dogs in need of a loving home. It might be just the ticket for you. Just a suggestion.

Hello and welcome. You found the right place if you're looking for suggestions. I am lucky that I can bring Bailey to work with me most days, but when I can't I have several options. First is always bring her to my parents or girlfriend. If they can't I have friends that don't mind stopping by to let her out. My last option is a dogsitter. She comes and lets her out for an hour so the longest she is in her crate is about 3-1/2 hours. But you could also try daycare. My next suggestion would be about choosing a puppy. Have you thought about adopting one? If that is not for you find a RESPONSIBLE breeder. You can find out what to look for in a breeder on this site. Good luck and I hope you get one soon so you can experience all the laughs and joy these dogs bring us everyday.

Welcome to BW! My Dad stops by when we have to work long hours. He will let Max out and feed him. Oh yeah, he also plays with him which is important. Maybe someone would love to help you out. If we don't call my Dad to come over he has to stop in the evening to visit Max. He can't stay away long from him.
