Boxer Pal
Hello from Dallas-new puppy question

My fiance and I got a female Boxer/Border Collie mix about a month ago. She is now 4 months old and cute as she can be. We would love any advice anyone can give us regarding Boxer puppies as this is obviously the dominant side of her personality. We are not really having any problems with her except, we have 2 indoor cats that she loves to chase and has recently started biting at their tails and necks. She also bites at people's jeans or pant legs while they are walking often ripping tiny holes in them. We would appreciate any advice anyone has for us.

Thanks.

My first piece of advice would be to be sure your girl gets plenty of exercise. They say a tired Boxer is a good Boxer (= not mischievious).

I'd also crate train, if at all possible. Boxers are likely to get in trouble and the safest place for them is the crate when you are out.

I'm not sure what to say regarding the cats b/c my girl is a documented kitty killer and I just keep all cats away.

Regarding the biting/nipping, when she does that, say OUCH really loudly. Boxrs are sensitive dogs and when I do that, Tae will stop. What is probably ideal is to say OUCH, then turn your back or ignore the dog for a few minutes. She'll learn that her behavior caused you to ignore her and she won't like that and should stop nipping.

Good luck and welcome to Boxer parenthood. lol ...never a dull moment!

First of all, Welcome! I can agree with the "ouch" thing and the ignoring them. I will usually try the ignoring thing with Bosco directly after he does something that we don't like after saying no or bad or whatever. They are soooooo sensitive that they cannot stand to be ignored or shunned. Best of luck! This really is a great site for info.

Thanks

Thanks for all of the good advice. We are also doing pet training at PetSmart. They haven't told us about the timeouts though, so we will start using that. I am going to try out saying "Ouch" and ignoring her today, I will let you all know how it works. Overall, she is a great puppy and a wonderful addition to our family. I am really glad we went for the breed we did, lots of entertainment!!!
