StormKatz, I didnt take offense to what you said. Don't worry! But youre right about being educated though...I wish I had been.

Leeshie: Typing that was even confusing to me
I was buying one, initially, from the white mommy and fawn daddy, that the "good" breeders owned.

Since the white mommy was having prenatal problems, I had to pick another litter. This litter was from a fawn daddy the "good" breeders owned, and a white mommy from the other.

Hope that clears it up.

Thanks

Hmmm. "Good breeder" or "responsible Breeder" and white mother should never be used in the same sentence. It is unethical and irresponsible to breed a white Boxer :(

Yeah, I think he put them in quotes because he realizes that now.

Completely Boxer Crazy
Maybe I'm naive, but I thought that the problems with breeding white boxers were so well known, that everyone basically knew it, and therefore no one really did it...just because maybe they would be "found out"...I don't know...
aggravating

You know what...I really dont know why white boxers arent bred. Jax is the second boxer I've had in my life. I've never owned a white one, nor knew anything about breeding them until now. My very first boxer, "Zeke", I had when I was in my early teens.

My sister knows alot about boxers, and she says pregnancy is very complicated with white boxers, sometimes fatal for the litter and the mother. << I didnt even know that when I paid for the puppy I thought I was getting from the white mommy. I still dont know medical reasons behind it though.

But thanks to you guys teaching me so much....I know what to look out for, and not to do if one day I decide to become a breeder.

Thanks.

No - most back yard breeders do not know.

Ear Drops

Hi smoothman

Mac had ear mites when I picked him up on November 4th aged eight weeks. took him to the vet on 7th November for his first vaccination and she prescribed some ear drops (no problems with his age). In the UK they are called Canural, not sure if it's the same in the USA, but after using them for a week twice a day, the problem has cleared up. I was also able to de-flea him with something called Frontline in the UK whiich you can use from the age of 3 days.

My other boxer Skye, a girlie who is 3, was diagnosed with a heart murmur in May this year. It had never been picked up before and certainly wasn't there when she was 6 months old and went in to be spayed. Anyway.... we were monitoring the murmur every two weeks and on the second return visit the vet picked up arryhthmia (a run of irregular heart beats). Well from there, the vet went into overdrive and referred me to a veterinary cardiologist who comes to the practice once a month. We Holter monitored her, had ECGs and ultrasounds while they were trying to diagnose the problem. It turns out to be Boxer Cardiomyopathy which is pretty serious (understatement). Unfortunately no long term studies have been done on boxers although they have on other breeds (eg dobermans) so at the moment the treatment is very much trial and error. She is now on two drugs, a beta blocker and an ACE inhibitor and when she was Holtered again in august the cardiologist was very impressed by how well she has responded to the treatment. She's back in again to day so they can fit the monitor for another two days to monitor her progress. Fingers crossed they will be as please with her progress this time. The point of all this explanation is case you're wondering :) is that do not be too despondent at Jax's heart murmur, as many have pointed out it may amount to nothing, but as long as you build up a good relationship with your vet and take Jax for regular monitoring, you may well be able to keep any heart problems under control. Again, for info, if you saw Skye and the way she is rolling round on the floor with Mac or chasing round the fields or woods on walks with her mates, you'd never realise she had a heart condition.

One other thing, and this may purely be an English reaction, please don't have Jax's ears done. You can't beat your boxer puppy lying on your knee and stroking his/her silky floppy natural ears and the same applies whatever age they are and believe me they will ALWAYS want to get on your knee for a cuddle.

Good luck!

Thanks Helen for all the good info. Jax goes back to the vet in about a week and a half, I'll make the vet look more into it, and try to get a better honest opinion.

About cropping ears.....I personally love floppy ears, I was just asking around incase I happen to decide to show him or something....but...got a long ways to go before that happens...he's still a baby.
