Boxer Pal
Hello there. Just a quick intro. I'm a first time dog owner. I've been looking off and on since I got a place of my own 4 months ago (former roommate already had 300 lbs of dog! - 2 yellow labs and 1 golden). I've always liked Boxers, Bulldogs, Bostons, anything muscular with that shorter snout. So anyways, I'm a big fan of saving dogs from shelters, so when I first saw my new girl I was hooked. Visited her almost every day for a week, while reading up on the breed here at BoxerWorld! Between this site and observing her temperment I went for it. Her name is Shelby now (shelter didn't know her original name). She's all white except for a few light brown "freckles" on her ears. I'm never going to swear she's a pure Boxer, but to me she looks and acts like one. They guessed her to be about 2 yrs old, the vet thought maybe less. She has a full tail (always wagging!) and floppy ears. She was taken from a bad home is all they would tell me. She is very skiddish if someone raises their voice at all. She however loves everyone and has never shown any sign of aggression. Loves kids. Gets along well with my friend's Bostons and Boxer pups. She's a bit of a bully around the adult Boston mix though. Haven't tested her yet with the ex-roommate's big dogs. She was severely underweight, even for a runt. I'm totally guessing that she's 16-18" at the whithers, but even at that she only weighed 33 lbs when I brought her home. Ribs and spine! I assume part of that light weight to be the bad home, but the other part to be feeding 6 Rottweiler pups on a poor diet! The shelter took the pups off her as soon as they got there (cute pups btw). Good news is Shelby is a good eater, pounding 4 cups of Candidae lamb and rice seems to be the ticket right now - she's already gained 4 pounds the first week, and is eating and drinking even better now. Already looks much better, less rib definition. She's very smart and figured me out quickly. VERY calm dog, fits my personality perfectly. Ok, so much for quick! I'll post some good pics when I get them. If anyone near Janesville, WI would like to get together for a dog party let me know! Take care. -Tony
