Busters' Dad

Boxer Pal
Hi Everyone,

Just joined today. Glad I found this place for boxer lovers. We found Buster via the internet last February. A rescue foundation contacted us and told us they had one in the pound picked up the prior week.

We drove the 1 1/2 hours to look at him. He was extremely hyper and we weren't sure if he was what we wanted but the kids loved him so we paid for him and took him home. We fell in love right away. He immediately started following us wherever we went. Luckily, we work at home so he has company all the time. He seemed well trained just very exciteable!

We bought a crate immediately and he took right too it. He has his little home in our bedroom every night. He loves to ride in the car. He sits straight up in the seat and pretends he is a human.

We've only had him six months and it seems like it has been forever. We even cut our vacation by a day this summer because we missed him. He is still a bit skinny at 60 pounds but he is slowly putting on the weight. The one problem we do have is peeing and pooping in the house which is detailed in another forum.

As for us, we have become huge boxer fans! Buster doesn't like other dogs but I sure would like to have a boxer puppy to add t the family. We'll see:)

I look forward to hearing from all of you and getting to know the website.

WELCOME!!! partyicon

You will definately find answers to all of your questions here. As for him peeing in the house, sorry. Mason likes TRYING to "mark" my futon(good thing he's a bad aim ) That's part of rescuing, you help them overcome past abuse, neglect, and help them regain trust in their humans. Mason was very affraid of me when I brought him home. Any time I would pick something up he would RUN. They told me he was abused, but he if full of love and trust now. Congrats on your new furbaby!

Welcome, Doug. :) It's so easy to love a boxer, so I can fully comprehend how you've had him just a short time and yet are completely in love! That's cute how he sits up in the car thinking he's a real person. Looking foward to hearing more from you....I'm sure Buster will give you lots to talk about!

Hi Doug,

Welcome to Boxerworld.

Your experiences have several similarities to our Ana. We found her last Dec on the internet and drove 3 hrs to the breeder's. She was 7 1/2 weeks old at the time and basically flunked the socialization test, which suggested she would become a timid wall flower. Wrong! Ana also took to her crate right away, but cried every night until we realized that she needed to be close to us, so one night we moved her crate into our bedroom and never heard a peep out of her since.

Regarding a playmate for Buster, it reminded me of another Board member who said "Boxers are like potato chips, you can't stop with one". True, but some of us simply aren't in a position to take on a second.

Hope you pick up lots of good tips here in the Forums and Buster becomes the ultimate beneficiary. It's a great site with lots of nice folks. Again, welcome.:)
