Last week after the recalls started coming out about Natural Balance, we decided it was time for a switch of Roscoe's food (we had been contemplating it anyway as he has been on NB for 4 months now). We were feeding him NB Potato and Duck. So we bought a small bag of it (reluctantly) and a small bag of Canidae to begin the switch. It has officially been a week now that we have been mixing the two together and Roscoe seems as if he is not too crazy about it. He has been picking at it (the mixture still) for the past few days. Is it possible he doesnt like it? He didnt eat much this morning so I set it out when I went home for lunch and he took two mouthfuls and that was it. I gave him a handful of the NB in his crate as I left and he ate all of that. Should we try a different food? We were debating between Canidae and Wellness Puppy or Solid Gold Puppy. Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on?

We recently switched all of our dogs to Canidae - Bella had been on Nutro Natural Balance puppy and the other 2 were on junk food. Bella took to the Canidae right away but my border/beagle didn't seem to like it at all. Around the same time I started adding yougurt to Bella's food and the 2 boys wanted it too. Now that I add a dab of yougurt, Jake seems to like the food and runs to the bowl! Not sure but it might be worth a try.

I've had Chance on Canidae for a little over a month. At first he didn't take to it, but then after reading posts on here I added about a tablespoon of yogurt. Chance hasn't looked back and he loves it. I have to send him with a "care package" when he goes out to visit my BF parents because he won't eat there food :)

Biff loves his Canidae - but there again, Biff has NEVER refused ANYTHING that looks remotely edible

I'd try adding the yoghurt :)

Yeah, Roscoe has NEVER refused anything, edible or not. I will try to pick up some yogurt tonight and see if that helps. He is going to the vet tonight, maybe they will give me a different reason as to why he is not eating a lot. Hopefully it is nothing serious (see "Fever?" post in Health Issues)

When I initially made the change to Canidae from their old food, Rocky had no problems with the change...he'll eat anything, but our other dogs used to pick out the old food and leave the Canidae all over the floor. They are all eating it now and seem to really like it. I think it'll take a few days to get used to it.

We feed both of our dogs Canidae. We switched them from Pinnacle. One of the beans was still having soft stools after 4 months. My mom has a guide dog and that is what she feeds her. So I figured if it is good enough for a guide dog is works for me.

We have had our Hans on Canidae for about a month and we love it as does he.

He was on Nutro and when we brought the bag of canidae home, he instantly walked up to the bag and smelled it before we opened it. He has not done that with any of the unopened food that we brought home.

I guess dogs are as different in their 'food' likes and dislikes as human people are. My Belle will not eat Canidae and we ended up donating the remainder of the large bag to our county Humane Shelter. The only food we have found that Belle will eat without adding anything to it is Innova. Canidae is cheaper in cost so I wish she would eat it. Jake, our rescue boy, will eat about anything. He was picked up as a stray so we figure he was a scavenger for anything to eat and learned not to be picky.
While I'm writing this, may I ask a question? Does it hurt to add a little tuna (packed in water) or things like that to their food? With the dog food recall scare, I do not plan on changing from Innova for a long time. I know our babies need 'change' occasionally so would adding tuna or other bits of meat to their food be like a 'taste' change for them or would I still need to switch foods after a while? I just don't know what I would switch to at this point.

I just thought I'd add my experience with Canidae.

When we switched Java onto it, she ate it for a few days, and then decided it wasn't that tasty and just wouldn't eat it at all. After a few weeks of this (and Java losing weight because of her refusal to eat), we then moved her onto Timberwolf Organics (Dakota Bison) and she LOVES that stuff. I still believe Canidae is a good quality food, but if the dog won't eat it, then it's not doing her much good!
