We got our pup when he was 4 weeks old he will be 8 weeks on Saturday. Yes, I too know that is young so no need to inform me. I am not sure why he was removed from his mother so young, she wasn't even onsite.

We mix his food with water so it is mushy and easy for him to chew. We also held him a lot and kept him with us at all times. My b/f works from home so is able to spend a lot of time with him. We have another boxer that he has become very close with, he follows him everywhere. Our vet told us to make sure that he gets a lot of socialization with other pets. Over all, I think he is doing great. Eating, playing and is a joy to be around. I learned a lot from reading in the puppy forums. Especially about the biting:) Good Luck, keep me posted!

We are home all the time I have 3 kids and homeschool so he hasn't been put down since Sun. when we got him...lol. He's too cute to put down. I'm alittle concerned he isn't eating the Iams canned food I got him..his owner said they crushed dry food but I thought it would be better if he had softer food...vet says to try the dry which hubby is pcking up on way home from work today...we'll see? Am i starting a bed habit if he sleeps with us?

Both of ours sleep with us. However, Cody (the older one) has been sleeping on the couch. I just read a post about this yesterday about allowing your dog to sleep with you. I think everyones opinion was that it was ok as long as they only get up and down when told to. Everyone gave a lot of input. However when we leave for a couple hours we do put the pup in his crate.

We recently slowly switched our dogs food. Due to the fact that I read and learned a lot about good types of dog foods and the ingredients to look for. We are feeding them Wellness and they both eat it. It is like it is a challenge for Cody to eat his before Duke is over there trying to eat his! One is on puppy and the other is on senior food.

First off, I dont think your crazy to take the baby if the Mom stopped feeding. It is better for them to stay with their littermates until they are 8 weeks because they learn pack order and all kinds of things WE cant teach them. But, If I were you Id take him to the vet and make sure he is ok and ask if there was anything he would suggest I supplement him with. Also, I wouldnt take him anywhere before I got his shots. These little ones are very sensative and can get sick easy. I would also suggest a heating pad on a low setting or hot water bottles at night if you use the A/C already. Dont want him getting too cold. Other than that, just love him like theres no tomorrow. ( they are just like newborn skin kids, lots of time, patience and love)

My first boxer kept GI tract problems. The vet would suggest, when Gisix wouldn't eat puppy food, to mix any meat baby food with the puppy food. Ask your vet if that would be okay to do for your baby. Gisix would also get pedialite when her stomach was upset, she liked the flavored the best. She was a weird dog anyway, she would eat yogart with me in the mornings.

You would do well not to buy the Iams puppy food. He would be better off with a food from the Whole Dog Journal list of 10 best foods. Iams and other foods like it are often made with questionable meat sources such as cancerous meat and other byproducts as well as used oils and greases from the food industry. You can do a search in the forum on Iams and you'll find some things you may not have wanted to know but it's good to know. They are not alone, most any food you get from the Gorcery store type places are alike in those ways. Lots of fillers, questionable meat and other byproducts that are not good for your baby. Whether he's too young or not is irrelevant now since you have him so the best food you can get him the better. Try mixing the dry with a little warm water until it softens a bit and adding a tablespoonful or so of the canned to make like a stew. This may help him eat better but honestly he needs a better food. Maybe if you can find something like Chicken Soup in your area you could try that. There are several other great foods and I'm sure you can find something from that list in your area. It does cost a bit more per bag but your dog will most likely be healthier and you have to feed less of the better quality food as there isn't a bunch of fillers. Vets usually do not know much about nutrition as they dont really study it in vet school so they are not your best source for nutritional information. You will encounter some issues with his behavior since you got him so young and he didn't learn things from his mom and litter mates. Whenever you come across a problem do a search on this board you will find lots of great information about bit inhibition, potty training, etc.

Welcome to BW and good luck with your little guy.
