Hi i'm new to the site and love reading all your letters i have a 9 month old white dog named Chance and love him to bits even though he has been a bit distruptive! I am concerned about him getting sunburnt, if we ever get any sun! and was wondering what type of cream to use on him to prevent this, can anyone give me some advice please?

Hello! Welcome to the board! I do not know about any doggie sunscrean though, just wanted to welcome you. My Prince is white but he has very thick fur, so that is something I have never dealt with. Good luck, I'm sure someone here knows!!!!

Hi mandymom thanks for your reply i am new to the boxer breed so i am still abit nervous about all the new adventures we are having together, so i wan't to make sure that we are well equiped to cope with all the things that are going to happen both good and bad. since the weather has got a bit better he has discovered bees so i am constantly following round the garden at the moment making sure he doesn't try to 'play' with them. Did i read write that you are waiting for the arrival of a new pup?

Yikes, bees can be bad! :) We are both lucky to have found this board and get so much info on our babies!! Yes, Cooper will me coming home one day in the next few days, maybe tommorrow! Can't wait. The breeder wants to make sure he is ready to leave his fur mommy. I had a fawn boxer while growing up (Rocky) we had him for years, then my parents divorced when I was 12 and when I was 13 we gave him to my bestfreind and moved out of state. It was very hard. I have wanted another boxer ever since!!! I am 26 now and am finally getting another! Look forward to hearing about Chance. (That is my Mothers mini pinchers name, I named him!)

Chance

Hi Mandymom i bet your so excited about getting Cooper, we thought about getting another boxer as Chance really suffers from seperation anxiety. We never leave him for long but when we do he is really destructive. I've had 3 curtain poles and 4 sets of curtains destroyed in the past 3 months! we were then advised that we might be better going for a less active breed to see if it calms him down, then my boyfriends mums shar-pei dog had pups so we have decided to get one of them as they are not as boistrous and are mature at 6 months of age i don't think chance will ever grow up he likes his cuddles to much!!We pick her up in 5 weeks time she is lovely and we think she is going to have fluffy fur, i was really pleased because i seen her being born we are still trying to think of a name, i like mya but it is still not decided.

Have you tried crating Chance while you are away? That may solve your problem. I had a dalmation that would rip my house apart when I was not home, so I sympathise! I am going to crate train Cooper. He will not be in there except at night and for very short periods during the day. (my fiance and I both work at home) I am mainly wanting to use it for potty training. After he is potty trained I am hopping he will be OK out if it at night. Shar-pei's are really cute. They are my sisters fav dog, she would be jelouse! That's great that you get to visit her and were there when she was born!

Hi Mandymom, Ihad a crate for Chance that i had borrowed of my mum which she used to keep her 2 rottweilers in and i left him 1 night while i went out for 2 hours he had food and water in there and all his toys and when i got back he had managed to bend 2 of the bars from the bottom and they were sticking up, so i never bothered after that as i didn't want him to hurt himself. My mum said that he must have some demon in him as hers had never caused any damage! sometimes i do wonder.

Sun block

Hi Jo, I also have a white and I have just used baby sunblock on him when we were in the sun for an extended period. Mainly on his ears and on his nose. I know I have seen a product in the pet stores that is a sunblock made for dogs but I don't know how it differs from the baby sunblock. It probably just costs a lot more! My boy is real sensitive also and it did not seem to irritate his skin in any way.

Good luck and enjoy your baby!

Hi Jo,

We live in Belgium and had a white female.
We don't have much sun just like you and therefore no need of a sunblok.
Enjoy your boy....
