Boxer Pal
I have a male neutered 4 year old Boxer named Max. 2 days ago I had the opportunity to rescue a 2 1/2 year un spayed female fawn. Her name is Xia (zia) She had nipped at the owners 1 year old daughter. The toddler went into her food dish as she was eating. The owner's wife said get rid of the dog. Anyway, I brought her home. She's a sweetheart. I have never had 2 dogs and I don't want to do anything wrong. I want them to get along.
They have their own dishes and I have them set up on opposite sides of the kitchen. Max has gone after her a couple of times. mostly over food or treats. It seems to sound worse than it is I think, but I don't want him to start having behavior issues. He backs off pretty quickly. I certainly don't want either of
They are starting to play together a little. I'm sure she is very disoriented being in a new place. I don't believe she's had any exposure to other dogs at all. Max has been around alot of dogs for play but not in our house very often.
I need some help and suggestions. So many of you have multiple dogs, does it get better??

In the mean time, I would separate them during meal times. There is no rule that says they must be fed at the same time. Crate one, let the other eat. Do this for a few weeks, and by then, they will be more used to each other and she'll be accustomed to being around other dogs. Good luck, thanks for rescuing her!
