Moral support needed. I just picked up a new foster (owner surrender) today and she attacked R.J.! I am hoping that it was just because of anxiety and being excited about new surroundings, but she really hurt him. (She has no history of dog aggression). R.J. has two puncture wounds on his leg and a number of cuts on his nose that hurt a lot. His leg is quite swollen and he's limping around looking very sad. The rescue is a 5 year old female boxer that has never been crate trained. We have her crated now, but she's really fussing. It is just unsafe to let her out, as she is a potential danger to both R.J. and Hemi. I feel bad for her, but also a little nervous. This is our third rescue this year, but the first we have had aggression issues with. Any advice would be appreciated! I think we need some of those great BW vibes for her to settle in and come around and that R.J.'s sore leg heals quickly. Thanks!

I don't know much about agression issues either but good luck! It is such a wonderful thing that you are doing. Not many people would foster a strange dog. It soundds like the crate is the safest place for her and your other dogs. I do know a few dogs that are extremely sweet with people but because they have never been socialized with other dogs, they get aggressive. Do you volunteer with a rescue group? Maybe someone from the rescue can offer you helpful advice.

I wanted to send healing vibes for R.J. I hope he feels better soon!! Is there anything that provoked her into attacking him? Were they fighting over a toy?

Sorry you're having to go through this, I've been really lucky with my fosters, too. I've also only had 1 aggressive one (out of 10+) I would definitely keep them separated for a while. I am curious, too, was there was a trigger? Food or toys or anything? Sometimes, just like people, dogs will just NOT like each other's personality. Hopefully, they'll get theirselves straight. In the meantime, I'm sending lots of hugs to you guys. Poor R.J., give him an extra kiss on the nose!

Thanks

Thank you all for your thoughts. No, there wasn't a trigger at all. The two dogs were introduced on neutral territory, under controlled conditions. R.J. sat quietly while we let the foster meet him, and she just attacked him. Of course he fought back because he didn't have another option. (He didn't leave a mark on her) She just seems to be very aggressive towards R.J. but is fine with Hemi, my Boston. R.J.'s leg is quite swollen tonight, and he's not putting any weight on it at all. I'm worried the crushing of her jaws caused a lot of damage to the muscle (hence the swelling). The puncture wound bled quite a bit, and seemed pretty deep. If it doesn't start to get a little better by morning, I will have to take him to the vet.
