This weekend my family adopted another boxer. It has been ten years since our last adoption, and we are pretty excited about our new family member. My son and I drove from South Jersey to Connecticut on Saturday where we met Leann Lolar from Second Chance Boxer Rescue. She had brought with her a 10 month old male named Wrigley. He is now happily residing in our home and learning to live with our 4 year old female Victoria. So far they have gotten along pretty well and look like they will be good together. It is really a lot of fun having a young boxer in the house again. He is a very funny little dog who's traits are completely different from Victorai. She loves to play outside and he prefers to be inside and is just learning how to play with another (and much bigger and stronger) dog. We have taken him out for walks every night and he just gets very winded. Victoria is not used to a dog that gets tired so quickly and we are hoping that by playing with her often enough he will improve his stamina. All in all it has gone very well so far and he seems to be very happy in his new surroundings.

I would really like to thank all the good people at SCBR for helping make our adoption a success. They were great to work with and really made the process go smoothly and quickly. Thanks again,

Congratulations!!!! Thank you for rescuing!
I am a little concerned about your baby getting winded with exercise. Not to cause unneccesary worry, but has your vet checked him thoroughly? I know shortness of breath can be indicative of heart problems. I really hope all is well and he's just "out of shape"

Congratulations on Wrigley! Glad everything worked out for you and your new addition.

When we rescued our Pete last August, he too had no stamina. He was a very young two years at the time and had been in rescue less than a month. He was picked up as a stray and pulled from the shelter, but appeared to have been well cared for proir to rescue. He was neutered before being picked up so he had been cared for. I had him checked by my vet in the first week after the adoption and all was well. I think these dogs in shelters and even in rescue have been stressed to a high degree. It must be all so very confusing to them and anxiety could take a toll on their sleep patterns and stamina. I hope your new pup gets a clean bill of health from your own vet. I'm positive he will.

Again, thanks for rescue and Congrats.

Congratulations on your new addition! I adopted a rescue last August, too, and Beau is doing great! I'm sure with good food and regular exercise, your pup's stamina will increase. It can take a rescued dog several months to get adjusted to a new home!

Wrigley

He is scheduled for a complete once over at our vets office next Friday. He saw a vet while in foster, and seems to be very happy and healthy. I am sure he will eventually become stronger, and have much better stamina. He already seems to be much more interested in playing and going for walks.

I guess we are just used to the activity level of our four year old female Victoria. My children are very involved in our dogs lives and "Tori" gets walked daily, sometimes several miles at a time. She is allowed to play in the yard several times a day. And often tows my fifteen year old daughter around the neighborhood on her roller blades. Tori can wear out one dog after another during play dates and has an incredible stamina level even for boxers. We hope that Wrigley will eventually be able to at least keep up with her so that he does not have to be left behind.

Wednesday night we had to do our 10:00 pm walk without him because Tori had worn him out playing in the yard. She however was chomping at the bit two hours later for her nightly walk. Hopefully he'll get in a little better shape as we work him into our and Tori's exercise routines.
