My pup Edgar, got this down in about a week. I have wind chimes hanging on a gate by his food and a second pair in the living room. I touched his nose to the windchimes each time we went outside. He rang the chimes himself on the third day. If you don't hear him on the second try, he goes to the living room and sets those off too. When Edgar rang the chimes, we took him out, he had five to ten minutes with us outside to do his biz. If he did not, we came in immediately and then we went back out again in about 10 minutes to try again. He tries to ring them to just go outside, but we only give him 5-10 minutes. He pretty much has given up on ringing the chimes just to play unless he hears his friends (the neighbor children outside).
