Neutering!!!!!!

My baby boy, Buster-Ares, will be neutered on April 15th and I don't know what to expect. Can anybody offer some advice and tell me what to expect when he comes home. I am hoping he calms down as he is 10 months old and has done quite a number on my house. Help!!!!

LOL-neutering won't take the place of old fashioned training which is a LOT of hard work but it will decrease your boys chance of developing cancer-yea! The hardest part about taking care of a dog thats just been neutered is keeping them quiet for a few days so he doesn't pull any stitches loose. Consider yourself a proud over of a Boxer boy starting his "teen" years-you will really have to stick to the training in order for him not to rule your house.Good luck

Our Rocco, 7 months old, was just neutered last week and he did really well. They kept him overnight to ensure he was okay and he was still a bit groggy the next day. But he has been fine since then. The hard part was keeping him from over exerting himself. Yesterday was his first day of freedom and boy did he enjoy it!

I also want to ask you a question. I had read in one of your previous posts that your Buster had D/Mange. What did you do for treatment. Rocco was just diagnosed with it and I am exploring different treatment options.

Dozer got neutered a couple weeks ago, he's 5 months. He did pretty good. We dropped him off at 7am and picked him up at 4pm the hardest part was seing them take him away (boo hoo). We brought him home and he was really groggy. He drank some water and threw up, also wouldn't eat. So I called the vet and they said it was normal he'll eat tommorrow (he did). He pretty much slept for 2 days and had some purple bruises down there but they went away quickly. He was back to normal about 4 days later but we had to keep him calm. He also kept trying to lick himself but we were afraid he'd pull out the stitches, he wanted to run and play but he still had a little limp (ouch!) but after a week he was fine. The most important thing is watch for bad swelling and any signs of infection and keep him calm. Good luck!

Roinin also got neutered at about five months old. I too dropped him off at 7 am and picked him up at 4. I called the Vet about 2 that afernoon just to see how everthing went. They said that he was already up and alert and you would never know he just had surgery It didn't take him 24 hours to recover and it was a real challenge trying to keep him calm. Best of luck when he comes home - keeping them from doing those boxer burns is the hard part

About D/mange

Hi and thanks to everyone for your wonderful advice. I will be taking a week off to care for Buster-Ares, because he is so active that without someone at home, I think he will get in trouble. Plus, Xena will be there and eventhough she is very calm, she might get curious about his boo boo. Hayley, Buster-Ares was finally cleard of D/Mange about two weeks ago. He is still growing hair and you can visibly see where the spots are. He had a total of 5 treatment with Mitaban Dip and Ivermectic shots. I also applied the Goodwinol ointment to the spots. It was quite a challenge and very expensive. The diagnosis was about $153.00 with scraping and all and then $50.00 a week for the treatment on top of the medication which was extra. I would estimate that the whole thing cost me about $400.00 plus dollars.

He would come home groggy and thirsty, but on the second day he was back to his old self. I started feeding both of them Royal Canin Boxer and was told that it was the best food to get their imune system working properly. I guess, I went about it aggresively because I wanted to get rid of the mange as fast as possible. He has an appointment for a re-check next month.

Yogi had the d-mange and all we did was used the goodwinol for about 6wks or so. Totally changed his diet and added supplements---Vit C and doggie vit's. He is fine now. Getting neutered on friday. I am so parinoid the d-mange will come back. But atleast I know now how to treat it. I haven't stopped the vitamins either. He gets both daily.

Please check the feeding forum here for a better quality food. Royal Canin Boxer really isn't a good food at all. There have been many posts here about it. Good luck!
