Does Neutering a boxer really calm them down and help them to mature better? Everyone is telling me to hurry up and get my dog neutered so that he will calm down.

While neutering a dog will have *some* behavioral effects, I would not rely on this procedure to magically 'calm' a dog. Farley is just as energetic as ever after being neutered. If you're having problems with your pup obeying you, take an obedience class, but don't assume that neutering will make him all of a sudden a different dog.

Boxers have alot of energy, and especially if your dog is a puppy, which I have to assume he is, he can't be expected to just lie around on the floor all the time! :)

doubtful that neutering will calm your boxer down. Cassius is just as active as he was before he was neutered. and i'm not sure what your friends mean by mature better, but neutering has a lot of very beneficial healthy advantages for your pup. (ie: less chance of cancers/tumors etc..) So, get him neutered anyways! ;) like FarleyBoxer said, if your having training problems take your pup to class.. it will be fun for both of you, and it he'll be learning too. good luck

I waited until Buster was 3 years old before we neutered him. I was scared that he would calm down - I didn't want him to. I like him wild and crazy.

Good news for me - he's just as rambunctious (sp?) as ever!

No, I'm not having training issues at all. He's very smart! But I've heard from many different people that it helps calm a dog down. Thank you for your input though!

we're waiting for Snatch to be 18 months old to 2 years to neuter him (breeder advice for muscle development)

Neutering did not slow Toby down at all. He had it done at 12 weeks since he is a rescue. He is just a hyper as any boxer at 14 months old. There is nothing wrong with his muscle development. 75 lbs and all muscle and bone. He's gotten to be a big boy. So I would not wait. It is better for his health too.

Thank you for all the helpful responses. I am going to get him neutured some time in August so that I can be home w/ him to make sure he doesn't get at the stitches. Thank you all once again!
