What are the signs that tell you my dog needs neutered?
Is it aggression,humping legs.
How much is too much?
Also when is the earliest it should be done as Murphy is just a puppy.
I don't want to get it done if possible.smashicon

It is probably wise to neuter any male that will not be used for showing and who should not, or will not be used for breeding.

There may be some dispute, but neutering (a nice word for castration) will/may help reduce or delay the development and spread of tumors later on since testosterone is to tumors what fertilizer is to plants.

Your vet can best tell you when to neuter your dog.

We had Rocky neutered and noticed no change in temperament or personality. He was as active and friendly as ever. To my understanding it does not completely eliminate their sex drive though it will greatly diminish it. I've heard from other owners that their neutered male will exhibit interest in females in season, though not with the same intensity as intact males.

All dogs should be neutered or spayed unless you intend to breed them and there are too many breeding issues to go into here. Neutering helps the animal, and you, in many ways! Possibly the most important is that it eliminates the worry of testicular cancer and other illnesses.

My husband didn't want to neuter Hammer at first because, like many, he believed that it would change his behaviour or stunt his growth. It did neither! Hammer is still the same boy he was, and he's growing like a weed still!

Good luck, you're sure to get lots of responses here about this topic. You could also try doing a board search on neutering for more information.

If the dog has testicles or a uterus, it should be fixed.

My vet recommended neutering at the age of 6 months. From my personal experience, it didn't stunt their growth or changed anything. Before neutering Ruby, he barked a lot for no appearant reasons and he marked the pile of newspapers that he usually left alone so I decided to neuter him.

Please neuter and spay your animals as there are many unwanted animals that resulted from accidents. There are more than enough animals that are in the shelters and being euthanized from over population so please please neuter and spay your animals.

My 2 neutered male dogs (one boxer, one mutt) are the most laid back love bugs in the world.

They play & are happy, bouncy boys. But at the same time, they can just cuddle & love each other.

Both of my kids were rescues - so had to be neutered by law. I agree that ANY dog should be neutered unless used for breeding by a RESPONSIBLE person.

The only behaviour changes I noticed were all for the better (male agression, humping, and they are a little less stubborn now) and you will feel better about yourself for being a responsible pet owner.

6 mos is the normal age, but you can do it later. My boxer Sampson was about 2 when we adopted him.

He is still intact and he's not a show dog. Seriously, neutering will improve his health and happiness. It will reduce his chances of certain types of cancer, it will reduce the likelihood of him escaping and getting hit by a car or lost while chasing a dog in heat (it's amazing what they can and will do to get out), it will save him the frustration of wanting to get to a dog in heat when he can't, and most importantly, it will prevent unwanted dogs who will end up with sad, lonely lives in a shelter or a worse. For his sake, neuter him as soon as your vet recommends it. It's the responsible thing to do for him and for society.

I didn't neuter my last boxer (Max) and he had medical problems.
He had an enlarged prostate which led to him rupturing himself trying to go to the bathroom. He had to get female hormone shots about every 3 months and had to have mineral oil in his food daily. He passed away last December 23 at the age of 10. Some people think that they live longer if they are neutered, I wish I would have had him neutered, maybe he would still be here.
My new boxer (Toby) got neutered about 3 weeks ago and he made 1 yr old on Nov. 5. So far he has not changed at all.

Good Luck!!
