How much did it cost you to get you dog neutering? We just talked to the vet and the price seems high and I was wondering how it compared to what you guys had to pay. Thanks.

Dakota just got neutered on June 22nd, his 6 month birthday. It was $92.00. Our vet charges by weight because the bigger the dog the more anesthetic etc. has to be used.....at least that's what the tech told me. Dakota weighs 64 lbs.
My sister just got her little terrier neutered he is 6 months old also, I don't know what his weight is but it was $48.00.

I don't know if you have something like this where you are, but here in Asheville, NC we have a Humane Alliance spay and neuter clinic. Millie is female, so obviously it was a spay, but it was $35. They do a great job since that is ALL THEY DO. I had my two cats done there also. I believe a neuter is the same price or less. Check out the adoption agencies in your area, they may have a suggestion for a clinic.

We paid around $90 -$150. Sam weighed much more than Chief when he was neutered. So he was at the higher end of the price spectrum. Chief was six months when he was neutered; so his was less. There are programs as mentioned above through humane societies that offer The clinics for much less! I don't have much information on how they differ from the vet offices as to how they do things. Good Luck!

I just can't believe these prices now that other people are sharing! What a rip off! I have had such great experience with the clinics that I would never take an animal to the vet. Most vets do it old school style (for spays) and leave a long scar. Because of that, they have to use stitches or staples. Millie had an incision about the size of a dime with internal disolvable stiches and glue on the outside. I even called ahead about that anesthetic I know boxers can't have and they knew it right away and said they never use it on any dog. Maybe it's just me, but I would go to a clinic over a vet any day simply because when you do 20+ animals a day, you get pretty darn good. They don't charge based on weight, it's a flat fee.

For Tigger, it was about $160, including a heartworm test. It would have been somewhat less, but he was Cryptorchid (undecended testicles), so in a sense, they kinda had to spay him

Our vet charges by weight. The cost is $150 for under 50 pounds. We recently had our viszla neutered. The total came to $204. We had him microchipped at the same time. They also pulled two baby teeth that never fell out and they said they would have rotted and caused problems if left in. They did not charge me for the teeth pull. They did send me home with a weeks worth of pain medicine that he really didn't need. I did pay for that though.

I have gone the route of the ASPCA when we lived in Florida. Around here though I wouldn't trust the shelters. I've been there when the animals come back to the shelter after they have been neutered/spayed. It's not the cleanest or the most comfy place. I think it's a good option but be sure you know the fine print before taking your baby there!
