And it isn't "studies" - it is a single study that the author of that statement "found references to". He doesn't suggest that he has personally even read the (un-named) study, and then qualifies even mentioning it with his "I don't know how accurate these are". Um, yeah. I note that your friend Ed supports the neutering of dogs in just about every case. The exception is working/protection dogs - though he notes he might be wrong there too...
I have to say I'm not at all impressed by his (conflicting) statements about "working dogs born with one testicle" needing to be neutered at about 2 years old in order to avoid testicular cancer at age 5 and "all dogs with a retained testicle" needing to be neutered at a young age. Since the overwhelming majority of dogs born with one testicle actually have the second one retained - and one generally only finds out that the second doesn't exist through surgery - that would seem to be putting the lives of a great many dogs at risk, for a reason that is difficult to determine. Nice to know they won't get testicular cancer until age 5 though
Funny thing is, veterinary research doesn't support that statement either... :rolleyes:No, Ed Frawley states his reason for being against neutering *very* clearly - he hates people neutering the pups he sells because "I might have tried to breed them". Well, sorry, that may be in his best interests as a commercial producer of puppies (over 340 litters and counting), but IMO it doesn't consider the best interests of either the pups he sells or of their new owners. Perhaps he should consider producing and selling a DVD on neutering (he's got one on just about everything else, and probably he accepts visa
) - then he could promote the health benefits of neutering without having to worry about the potential effects on his income.
