i learned such a great lesson from this - by going over there and talking to her instead of just making a couple of phone calls to the authorities, a line of communication has been established. better to approach with kindness and empathy instead of the anger i was feeling.
we talked again this morning, and she had a million questions for me about everything under the sun regarding puppies. she simply has no experience with dogs or any idea how to live with them, which is scary, but at least she is willing to ask for help.
i found every article i could about every puppy topic i could think of on this wonderful site, printed them all up, made a nice little folder and stuck it into her mailbox along with my phone #.
anyway, so far a happy ending, and reminder that kindness can be a powerful weapon. :)

I really learned something from the way you handled this situation, because I don't think that is how I would have handled it at all. Thank you!

What a great way to handle the situation! My mom always said you catch more flies with honey than vinegar! It sounds like she simpy had no idea what to do but that, with a little guidance, will make a good dog owner. Who knows, they may not have even been the ones to buy the puppy. A well meaning family member could have given it to them and not even thought about whether there were equipped to handle a puppy.

Congratulations to you - what a wonderful outcome. You may just have prevented a puppy from being abandoned/given up/abused.
