Don't just go and take the dog. A dog is considered property and that is theft as well as trespassing wehn you go on his property. You could get into a lot of legal trouble for doing this. Call animal control and if you have a local rescue call them.

Called Animal Control!

I called Animal Control and told them my dilemma. April from AC is very nice and told me that if I was willing to take her she would note it on the record so I couldn't get in any trouble. I gave her the neighbor's name and she put me on hold. She came back on and said he was a "guest" there at the jail and she was going to go talk to him to see if I could keep her temporarily til he got out or if he was willing to let me find her a permanent home. So I am anxiously awaiting a call back.

DH is going to kill me!

I don't want to keep her permanently but want to be able to give her some TLC and find her a new home.

Any ideas on how to introduce her to Bayleigh? My idea was to leave Bayleigh in the house while I brought Lexus into the back yard and let her sniff around for a while. Then put Lexus on a leash and let Bayleigh out to meet and taking it from there. Please let me know if I am way off base here. I highly value your opinions!!

Females don't usually fight til they are both mature? Bayleigh is 10 months and quite a bit smaller than Lexus.

Thanks guys!

Bayleigh is 10 months and quite a bit smaller than Lexus.

10 months to a year is about the typical age ;). But that doesn't mean it will happen. The best thing you can do is introduce them to each other in a neutral area (not the backyard) and establish yourself as the clear leader.

You can do a search on "multiple females" or something similar, and I'm sure you'll find lots of threads on the topic. Good luck

I am in Indiana too.....if there is ANYTHING I can do for Lexus please let me know. I have 2 females also though, so keeping her is not an option.

Thanks

Since he is a "guest" in jail, it seems like he has no choice, either you take her or animal control takes her...let me know now I'm curious..I agree to introduce on neutral territory..if you leave Bayleigh inside and she sees you outside with another dog in her territory this could cause some problems..maybe at another neighbors to meet...good luck..

Wow...he's been in Jail since Friday? Sounds like either he did something pretty bad, or his daughter doesn't take care of him any better than she does her dog.

I'm glad AC is going to help you. Please keep us posted!

Update...so P.O.'ed!

Animal Control called me back and said this guy denied having a dog! AC told me to go ahead and take the dog and leave a note on his door telling him where she is. If he has not came for her in a week to call AC back and she would get her into a rescue.

After that I finally got in contact with the daughter. Talk about a bi#$%h! She said the dog was fine, on a 40 foot tie out and had a 5 gallon bucket of food and 5 gallon bucket of water. And didn't want me to call AC because she cost $600 and they were gonna breed her. That really sent me over the edge and I told her that her "cash cow" was constantly wound around the pole, her collar is so tight you can barely get a finger under it, and is attention starved, had no food or water, no shelter and was going to be dead if someone didn't take her in. She said she is pregnant and didn't want the dog jumping on her. I offered to take her temporarily and told her we have a 10 month old female. She said Lexus is not good with female dogs. She also said they would be out tonight to get her.

I called AC back again and told her what was going on. She said if the dog is still there in the morning to call and she would personally make sure that she was placed with a rescue foster home because she didn't want her to go to the pound either.

I am sitting here crying because I can't understand how someone can have a dog and then just toss them aside...until, of course, it's time to breed and make a little money.

So now I wonder what will happen when the neighbor does come home. They are about the white trashiest people! AC said if they give me ANY problems to call and the sheriff will step in and charge them with neglect. (Anything after 3 days is neglect.)

I am so sorry if I am rambling and I am sure this doesn't make sense. You guys are a great sounding board!
