Sorry :( I haven't been doing well emotionally since I have finished school, been very depressed and anxious, and this does not help!!! Now on top of that, I have more anxiety about letting my dogs out to play in their own yard. I shouldn't have to worry! He said he fixed the fence... I will post pictures tomorrow of how he fixed it. I want the entire fence replaced, I just need to find out how much that is going to cost and see if my mom will loan me the money since I do not have a job right now! I love my dogs more than anything else and do whatever is best for them. I just need to figure out what that is! When the sherriff comes out Monday, I will ask him if the neighbors will find out about my complaint. If so, I will not file it. If I could, I would move. I will do anything for my babies. I have wanted to move, but I am fighting foreclosure of my house! Long story, that adds more stess to things. I will deff. have a privacy fence in my next house. I would sell my house right now if the economy didn't suck. Anyway, thanks again for all the input. I am just so overwhelmed. I will figure this all out. I really do appreciate everyones support becuase I know you only want whats best for my Izzy and Gus.

Update on Gus:
He seems about the same, maybe more swollen :( I am going to try to ice his neck, but it probably will not do much good since it has been more than a few days. Poor guy. I measured around his neck so I can monitor if it swells more. I thought last time I measured his neck when I ordered a collar, it was 16'', now its 18'' after his injury. He might have filled in though too since I measured for that collar.

I'm sorry that this situation is becoming so difficult for you. Is it possible to make an "information only" report without having the sherriff acually come out to your house? A sherriff's car in your driveway may signal to your neighbor that you are taking action against him. I would go to the sherrif's office and explain the situation or call them and see if they take information only reports over the phone.

If this were me, I would go with the trying to solve the problem with a direct approach. I would try to speak to this neighbor again on an unemotional level (if that is possible) Let him know that Gus has a serious medical condition and that any physical trama results in expensive medical bills and a toll on his over all health. I would show him how much the bill was for Gus this time and that you cannot have the situation happen again. He most likely will not offer to pay the bill because he is ignorant. Lastly, I would ask him if he is going to permanently fix the fence in July like he said he would.

Sending Gus get better quick vibes.........and a big ((((((((((hug))))))) to you.

Did Gus go to the vet? Johann had a few incidents at daycare that ended up with puncture/bite wounds. Our vet did a 7 day course of cephalaxin antibiotics to prevent any infection.

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. My previous post came across in a harsher tone than I meant it to, sorry. :(

Yes, I took Gus to the vet the day after it happened. They put him on antibiotics for a week, and anti inflammatory medication. They put him on a wholisitic one because of his liver disease just to avoid any possible side effects. But they said if the swelling didn't go down, they would have to put him on the metacam. His neck is still swollen today :(
Don't be sorry! It's okay!

I think he is so dumb he won't even think about why there is a sheriff at my house. He doesn't think he or his dog did anything wrong!

I think I am going to have a fence company just come out and give me an estimate. Then I can take that to him and see if he wants to pay half... that may be easier than him doing it himself. I really don't trust that he will do it, or do it correctly.

I agree with the direct approach with the neighbors. I would just go over there and have a little chat about the dog situation, how you are scared to let your dogs out because you don't want his coming into the yard and having either one get hurt, that you are having an estimate on a new fense and thought you both could pay for it, etc. etc. If your other neighbor thinks they might be dealing drugs, I would be careful. You don't want your dogs to be let out or poisoned by someone getting even. It's very easy for us to give advise on what you should do, but we do not know this neighbor like you do. If you have an uneasy feelings about him and what he might do, I'd follow that intuition. Our insticts serve a valuable purpose and sometimes save us a lot of grief. Do what you feel you should do make this situation as trouble free as possible, but also protect your dogs. Good luck and keep us posted! I'm curious how this will turn out.

I had to take Gus back to the vet today since the swelling got worse. They shaved his neck this time (the back of the neck) and found that he has more punctures. They aren't serious ones, but he had over 4 wounds on the side of his face, and 8 on the back of his neck. She put him on metacam. She wrote up a report for me as well.
The dog warden came to my house today. I was not home, so they left the form to fill out on my front door. I think I will file it, and take it to their office instead of them coming out here, and make sure that they know I just want it documented, nothing else.

It seems like a good idea that you're pursuing the complaint, the injuries sound a lot worse than they initially did. I thought it sounded like a few scrapes and 1 puncture wound...poor Gus got really beat up.

For the fence, could you try a no-climb wire fence instead of chicken wire? Red Brand Fence - Large Animal Control & Confinement - Non-Climb Horse Fence My parents had their shepherd fenced in using this at our old house....works well and is a lot sturdier than chicken wire. If the neighbor dogs are digging underneath, sometimes you may have to dig and bury a foot or so of wire fence.

Good luck and I hope Gus's wounds heal up quickly.

I would keep yourself a log. Document everything that happened and everyone you have talked to. Keep your vet bills along with it. I've found that this has helped me in other circumstances. We tend to forget the littlest things and the traumatic parts get exaggerated in our memory banks. I hope Gus is feeling better today.
