Uti

This sounds exactly like what i went through with Maggie, it was so darn frustrating, we were back and forth with urine samples and I kept insisting this was not normal. Well i finally got her on some stronger pills even though urine test was negative. She is finally doing so much better, keep up the faith, it will get better and don't hesitate to go for a 2nd opinion!

That is the least of my worries so I hope it is a UTI. The vet swears they checked high and low and he is negative. I'm hoping that a new set of eyes, tomorrow will change things. He acts like a healthy pup otherwise.

I know that Tucker was put on meds for UTI for 14 days... he also didnt show any bacteria or white blood cells, but did have crystals in his urine. We are actually waiting on the culture to come back. (see my post- Tucker isnt feeling well). In any case, we are sending healing vibes!!!!!!!!!!!

Second opinion

Today I was on my way to getting a second opinion from another vet in my area.
My current vet, who I like, called me early this morning. She and I have been talking since Friday when she told me to measure Butch's drinking.

They have many doctors there, and she and the top doctor had a conference and decided to give him an X-ray, another culture (on site, not sent to a lab) and ultrasound free of charge at 8:30 am tomorrow. I thought that was very nice of them because that kind of testing is expensive. She also said that when they looked at his work-up she seems to think he is healthy and perhaps the the UTI is going undetected (in prostrate) or something?? So she's going to give me another different kind of antibiotic before we go into further expensive testing. Thank God. I wanted another course of antibiotics but they wouldn't give it to me without a positive culture. I really think it's a UTI. I pray. So things have changed and she was so helpful and realized that this has been very pricey for us. I feel bad about all of my complaining on my post.
Then she asked if Merrick is salty food because he is very healthy and they can't figure out what could be wrong. Of course, she never heard of Merrick.
So that gives me one more option and if it doesn't work then we'll have to go elsewhere, but the fact that they'll help us find the problem and care about my business says something about their professionalism.

2nd course of antibiotics(different) and no change because he doesn't have a UTI. Next step is diabetes insipidus testing. I really hope he doesn't have that.
I guess if nothing comes up, they just diagnose it as behavioral???
I know it's not, that's what bugs me about all of this. Somehow that wouldn't be a good enough answer for me. I'd always wonder if perhaps there is something physical going on that we can fix.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what the problem could be?? Excessive thirst and urine???

Excessive thirst & urinating is also a sign of lymphoma but if they have done blood work they would have already detected that.......

On another thread I found this: Polydipsia/Polyuria

Not sure what that is but we've experienced the same with our boxer and we are at our wit's end. We are going back to the vet again this weekend to see if we can find out more.
