Need to vent and cry

I have no experience with kidney disease in dogs but I have years of experience with it in a cat. My cat lived with chronic renal failure for over 4 years and passed away at the age of 17, April of 2003.

There is alot that can be done to extend the quality of life with kidney disease. There are also alot of other problems that it can lead to. It is a long hard road but one that is worth taking.

Sorry to hear that it is involving such a young dog. Work closly with your vet and wait for a proper diagnosis. Hopefully it is some type of infection that is causing the levels to be elevated, and can be treated.

As far as the Science Diet KD (Kidney Disease) you have to get it through the vet. (The vet might also have another manufacturer's product that serves the same purpose.) Don't change anything till you take your baby back to the vet, and discuss your options. I believe that the Kidney Diet is easier to digest and easier on the kidneys. Make sure you ask the vet about her fluid intake weather on not you need to increase or restrict. Did the vet ask if your dog had gotten into any poisonious things/food? Alot of animals can have kidney and/or liver problems if they have eaten something bad...You might also ask about a renal ultrasound or x-ray to see if kidneys are enlarged/ malformed. P.S.- I know the $$ situation well. Ask your vet if you could set up some kind of payment plan. Most vets are in the business because the love and want to help our pets, not to make tons of money.

I wish our vet would let us do payments, and maybe I was dumb for going with Banfield we got our puppy insurance with the plan we set up with them for Buddy and Brandy both. No payment plans and I'm stuck with them till May. The plan that they are on it's free to get them fixed, but when Brandy's results came back and they couldn't do the spay on her they charged me $89.00 for the blood work, because the blood work could not be seperated from the spay package. And now for the Lepto test thats $150.00... I hope they are not ripping me off. Does anyone know anything about Banfield they are located in some of the Petsmart store's. Thanks for all of your reply's. I will ask about poisonious plants, Since we live on an acre and I'm not certain of all the plants on the property.
