We have a 6 month old girl who was just spayed and had dew claws removed (Thursday). We had to get an e-collar yesterday as she chewed off one of the bandages. Well, my 3 year old male who is an anxious, scared, uptight dog is just freaking out over the collar. Yes, it really is huge... I think it is bigger than those satellite dishes you see around. But, my male has back issues and the last thing I need is him jumping off a piece of furniture to get away from her. I've tried letting him investigate the collar, correcting him when he gets uptight, etc., but he still is very frightened. I'm hoping I only have one more day of this. But, she may have extended her healing time on that foot after yesterday's event.

Any ideas other than alternating them in the crate? I've done that, but I hate to keep them confined like that.

Thanks,

Amy

You could try using a babygate to keep them in separate parts of the house. . .just until the e-collar is gone, and for both of their safety.

<healing vibes> to both your babies!!

Well, if it really is just one more day, then the crate (or separate rooms) probably is just the easiest.

Alternatively, how about leashes? With a leash on, he can't leap about too much, and she can't get so close to him that he feels the need to leap in the first place. Alternatively - if you're right there, can you not stop her chewing the bandages without the aid of the collar? LOL - you can tether her to you so she's never out of your sight. That's one step above the crate.

The chewing of the bandages happened with the first e-collar I bought. We were being cheap and bought one from a pet store rather than get fitted at the vet's office and thus I trusted the first e-collar and I left her in the crate and had a conversation with my mom in the kitchen and minutes later came out and there you go.

I would love to get a baby gate, but we literally have spent about $700.00 in about 10 days on Lars and Lily and I'm not really sure how I am going to buy toliet paper and paper towels right now. lol I'll try leashing more. I just wish I could turn off that fear of everything Lars has. If anyone lives near or around Burlington, NC, I would love to borrow a baby gate.

Just keep us in your thoughts.
