need some help on aggression

hello all, (the profile is still in the first stages)

anywho, I got my male he's a super happy loyal dog, he has 2 friends. a min pin, and my other female boxer,

but as soon as i he sees any another dog, its all Rage from there on..

I come from the prairies where Dogs were not around all that much. and I just moved To a huge city,

he seems to loose all knowledge and obedience and he only has his eye's set on his target.
hes even hurt himself While trying to get another dog.. that's how bad it is..
its to the point, he acts like he wants to play with other dogs, but soon as the other dog is with in 5-6 feet, its game to attack,

Do I have control of him? yes I do, Do I let him go after other dogs? not at all, am I firm with him to tell him its wrong to do what he does?? yes allll the time. I dont give him any chances..

its frustrating me now, because I cant take him off his leash to run around, unless I take him in a field, when know ones around..
hes Extremely good. untill he sees a dog..


any suggestions or links, or knowledge you guys can help me with So i can fix this bad behavior

There are some books that might help give you some ideas on how to train your dog to relax and focus on you in the presence of other dogs. One is 'Feisty Fido' by Patricia McConnell, and you may also want to look at her book 'The Other End of the Leash'. There is a new book 'Control Unleashed' by Leslie McDevitt that is worth a look. You will probably not find it in libraries yet, so you may have to buy it.
To start, set up a situation where you know your dog will be successful, such as being on a leash where he can see another dog, but it is at a distance where you can get him to look at and focus on you, and click (or use a marker word like 'yes') and treat. When you get a reliable response, start to reduce the distance. You want to get him to look at you when another dog is near. It will take a while, but the result is ceratinly worth the effort.
