Need some help/advice with my 8yr old friend

Hi, I have not posted alot but I Love this site!
Anyway, My boxer(chester) is 8 yrs old. He recently started to have accidents on my rug downstairs. Since I got him, he has always gone to my sliding doors to be let out(ever since he was a puppy). It could have been 3 in the morning and he would always go to the doors and let out a bark to say "let me out". In the past couple months he doesnt do that. My father said he came downstairs one night around 2am and just saw Chester laying in front of the doors to be let out. Why didnt he bark? Why did he just lay there? I believe this is when he is having accidents, in the middle of the night due to his not barking anymore.
What can I do for him? He sleeps in the same bed as myself for years now and he always woke me up. We took him to the vet and she couldnt find anything wrong.
What do you guys think? (I apologize for it being so long)

Since Chester's health has been check out I would suggest that you shut him in your room with you at night. He may be more inclinded to wake you up. If that does not work you could always set your alarm for 1 am and take him out.

but why wont he bark anymore to be let out?
He is still as playful and active as he ever was but this seems to be a big problem for him.

A probable reason why he doesn't bark is because he's ill and his schedule of going potty is disrupted. He's confused and doesn't know what to do.

PLEASE take your dog to the vet and have him thoroughly checked.
