Jake just turned 1 and for the past couple of months he's been a bully at the dog park. He will pin down a dog and growl. He does'nt bite and he's never injured a dog but it sounds like an aggresive dog and it scares the other dog owners(can't say I blame them I would feel the same way)He does'nt do it every time I go there in fact it's only happened a few times. He is neutered and it never has to do with toys,a particular breed,a certain sex, or a certain situation. It must be some kind of dog communication that I don't see. When it does happen I always give him a timeout and if it happens a second time we leave. I would hate to stop going there because he loves it there but it's very embarrasing and it not fare to the others that go there. If anyone has any ideas or if I am doing the right thing will he eventually stop?

Kostya does the same thing with different dogs. The preschool I took him to told me it's a dominant behaviour and to nip it in the butt.
You are doing all that the trainers told me with the time out and taking him away. Your pup needs to know that he can't behave like that and he can't play anymore if he does.
I use the choker with a slight tug for him and pull him away from the interaction.
Just give it some time, I'm sure he will start learning!

I am not a trainer or anyone with specilised training. However, I have seen our one year old male exhibit some more protective-type behavior. He seems to really like people or other animals or really not like them. We have witnessed him push our children aside to put himself between them and a perceived threat and take a very protectibe stance. I personally like it that he always seems to be on the look-out. Before my recent injury we took him on walks frequently and most of the time he was OK with other dogs, he would sniff their way look a little and most of the time move on. There are the incidents where he chose to stand up more aggressively.
I would think you know your dog best. If you think he is turning into a mad killer, work with him. I think whatever we do with our dogs, consistency is the key. Over time they will get the message!
