Zeus, who just turned 5 months yesterday, was recommended to eat 3 cups of kibble to gain some weight but he is barely eating 2 cups now. I put him on Fromm Family Gold Puppy, which contains duck, chicken meal, chicken, oatmeal, pearled barley, menhaden fish meal, brown rice, chicken fat, lamb, potato to name the first ingredients. 27% protein. I am thinking maybe he doesn't like one or more of the ingredients.

I was considering switching him to Fromm's Four Starr product but their ingredients resembles Canidae, which I used to use with Barron until they changed their ingredients. For instance, Fromm's chicken a la vegetable four starr contains chicken, chicken meal, barley, oatmeal, sweet potato brown rice, white rice, whole dried egg, menhaden fish meal, millet, chicken fat, tomato pomace, herring meal and cheese.

I have sprinkled liver on Zeus' food and stuffed some kibble in a frozen peanut butter kong to get him to eat more. So.........I am looking to switch him to another premium dog food. What do you feed your boxers? I am going to research dog food analysis until I hear back from you. Thanks! Cindy

You could try Innova puppy or adult; Merrick Puppy Plate, Turducken, or Wilderness Blend; Solid Gold Hundchen Flocken (Puppy); or one of the Wellness Super5 Mix varieties.

Personally I feed Natural Balance Lamb Meal and Rice as it's gluten free and my dog has a gluten allergy/intollerance. Personally food wise, I like Solid Gold, Wellness, Natural Balance, Innova, or California Natural.

Good luck!

You could always add canned meat (Wellness 95% or Evangers 100% canned meat) or homecook your own and add to his food. That would probably get him eating a bit more. By the way, does he look really skinny? Puppies don't have to be fat and chubby. Boxers tend to be lean puppies until they start filling out. If he has lots of energy and the flank bones aren't protruding I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I added yogurt to his breakfast and lunch and he ate it all up! Not a crumb yet in his bowl. So...I think I'll stay with Fromm for now and just add yogurt and whatever else I can think of.

I just switched brands too, i went over to Merrik, if you add a little warm water to Merrik, it makes itself a gravy that they love. I sometimes add a little bit of Merrik wet food in with it aswell, mine seems to love it, it's a little expensive but i've tried quite a few different brands and Harley seems to like this one the best.

Since I switched my dog completely to home cooked meal. He never leaves anything in the bowl. As good as the kibbles can be, he still enjoys home cooked meal.
