Need lots of positive vibes for 5 yr old grandson

We just found out our 5 yr old grandson Matthew is Autistic. Our daughter Missy is so upset. She has been doing alot of research on the internet about Autisum. He has always been real Hyper. We always thought little boys will be boys. When she took him for preschool they told her they thought he might be autistic. After many doctors we finally found one in Indianapolis that ran alot of tests and it has been confirmed. He is enrolled in a speacial class and is doing pretty good. We sure could use those great BW vibes for my beautiful blonde hair,blue eyed boy...thanks Linda

I work with several autistic children. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to receive the news. I'm working with a child right now, preschooler, who is speech only but I think she's on the autistic spectrum. Is your grandson mild, moderate or severe? In my school system, autistic children would go to separate classrooms but now we're really embracing the inclusion model where students, with various difficulties, receive an education in the regular classroom with typically developing peers. For some of our autistic students, it's been wonderful, whereas for others, not so much. It really helps when the student has an assistant to help throughout the day and who can modify assignments for the child.

I'm sending out positive vibes that your grandson continues to do well in his classroom and school environment.

They are saying his is mild and should be able to lead a fairly normal life. It is still very scary though.

That's positive, then - I'm sure as Lexintitus says, he'll do just fine in mainstream classes, and with the love and support of his family, I'm sure he's going to do very well

I don't know much about autism, but I do know about the fear of not knowing how to help your child. Research and asking lots of questions. Having a name and a direction helps a tremendous amount.
